DeShambles golf and behaviour was a disgrace in Germany today including barely acknowledging McEvoys win. He could be a car crash at the Ryder Cup, him and Bubba together....

In Toronto atm and just got a text from one of my fourball partners to say that he had 47 points this morning. He was quite rightly playing off 22 a couple of months ago and had got down to 18 with a few 2nd and 3rd place finishes, but lost 5 shots today (presumably on observation as well as css). He’s going to attribute his fabulous score in the fact that the other 3 of his regular fourball were away.

Congrats. In 35 years playing the game I've never had a hole in one. :(

I left one on the lip playing a quick nine on own last year. Would it have counted?

Had final round of our captains prize on Sat. 3 days qualifying then top 150 go out like a major with worst qualifier out earliest with leaders in last group. Everyone comes up to watch leader finish on 18th with Par 4 downhill, second shot over stream to green which is elevated. Trees both sides and if you go to right have to go over trees but even pitching down you don't have a flat stance.

I was very dramatic, one lad (off 21) in last group had birdied 17 so had 4 shot lead playing last. He played it sensibly didn’t go for it in 2 – he laid up well left with about 90m clear pitch to the green over stream, he did not have to go over the trees, he even had a good lie flat, he was at least 30ms right of trees. Big crowd around the green everyone watching, he shanks first ball hard into trees out of bounds. He drops another ball, shanks it through the trees over the bridge and just rolls out of bounds! Drops a 3rd ball shanks it again out of bounds, drops 4th ball hits on the 3rd tee box well left of green, duffs next chip, chips next about 15ft above hole, he then holes that putt for a 12!!! It was hard to watch it was like watching Jean Van de Velde times 100!!! Ended up 6th and worst thing was had to hang around for a few hours for dinner/prizes, poor lad it made hard watching.

Congratulations. A hole in one with a 3 wood is a hell of a shot. We have a similar closing hole at home and just getting on the green with a 3 wood is a feat in itself.

I've also had two. One with a 7 iron approx 140m and the second on our third hole with a 4 iron approx 170m. Got off lightly both times. Just had to shout my playing partners as there wasn't a club event on at the time. 8)

Any thoughts Gents, on Furyk picking Tiger & Phil as two of his wildcards ?

I have the feeling, he wanted to pick one, & to avoid criticism, he almost had to pick to other.

Personally; I'd put it down as a point on the board for Europe.

These two were never great in the Ryder Cup even in their prime so I agree. Maybe Tiger is slightly more of a 'team man' now after all he's been through. Maybe.

Tiger deserves it, Phil not so much his form has been poor lately but as another pundit asked who do you pick if not Tiger? He is there on merit imho.

He's one of the form golfers in the world this year.

Big calls for Bjorn to make. Poulter is an easy pick imo, and I think Pieters is an easy pick.

RCB also an option.

Casey
Garcia
Poulter
Stenson

Plenty of experience
Form - not so good for G and S

but then 5 rookies so maybe didnt want more

Garcia becomes the first ever Ryder Cup pick to have missed the cut in all 4 majors.

Casey is a grade A knob by all accounts, surprised he's in.

Picking on reputation rather than form did not pay off last time out and we're up against an incredibly strong US team.

Yep, i've got first hand experience that he's a knob.

Poulter is the obvious pick, form not too bad and he just loves the RC, the rest meh but Europe has slim pickings at the moment tbh.

The story I've heard about 2006 when players were asked to write down 3 guys they'd like to be partnered with and no one put Casey down and he didn't put anyone down sounds a bit far fetched but speaking to a few guys who have been involved with professional golf in different roles they said he's a bellend.

I'd have gone with Pieters and RCB over Sergio (who is in awful form as much as I love him and has a poor RC record over the past 10 years) and Casey.

Poulter a lock once he showed a bit of form (and he's shown a hell of a lot of form this year).

Pieters is miles off imho, RCB yes would then maybe go with Fitzpatrick and my thistle tinted specs Knox but Knox form has fallen away last few months, was playing well before that both are rookies though so can see why they didnt get picked.

The US team is extraordinarily strong. Best side they have fielded since Walton Heath in '81, in my opinion.

I was at a Q&A before the last Ryder Cup and this story was put to McGinley, with the additional bit about a few of the replies saying anyone but Casey, and I think everyone was a bit shocked that McGinley had a bit of a chuckle but didn't deny it. In fact he made a good job of avoiding answering the question.

The strange thing is that imo Casey always comes across as OK in post round interviews, but, as others have said, he is a right prick in real life from all accounts.

Those picks seem pretty stale. Relying on a lot of guys to pull some form out of their ass from nowhere. Not a great option imo.

Really agree with many of the posts on picks
- 2016 proved that picking on experience doesn’t necessarily work today, Westwood and Kaymer were poor, the US have a young team and accepting Big Cat and dancing Phil add experience the appointment of Kuchar and ZJ as vice-captains indicate a further younger/rookie pick
- Casey as popular as a fart in a spacesuit, no close friendships in euro team
- Sergio has been pish since Masters victory
- RCB very hard done by and Matt Wallace, 3 wins on tour clearly count for less doesn’t say much for supporting European tour ahead of pga...

This is a very strong US team.

The only hope is that the notoriously difficult Le Golf National course will level it a bit and the European guys have played it more often.

The European widlcards speak volumes of the mentality of Bjorn who cannot be told anything by anyone. He is a classic egotistical zealot. After his historic reactions to not getting the captaincy before, I am surprised he was ever considered again.

He does seem to be a bit of a dick. Looking forward to seeing Fleetwood, who's a fabulous player with a great temperament. The big names like Rose, McIlroy and Poulter will have to have massive weeks for the Euros to have any chance.

0710 Justin Rose and Jon Rahm vs Brooks Koepka and Tony Finau Europe

0725 Rory McIlroy and Thorbjorn Olesen vs Dustin Johnson and Rickie Fowler halved

0740 Paul Casey and Tyrrell Hatton vs Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas USA

0755 Francesco Molinari and Tommy Fleetwood vs Patrick Reed and Tiger Woods USA

getting Hatton out the way early doors!#Good move
PS Casey is a complete plum according to my spies at IMG

Which courses?

The Marquess is long but much more open than the other two.

The Duchess is short but tight as a nuns chuff, don't even bother with the driver bar the par 5s.

Dukes more of an old fashioned test.

we played them all
Marquess - I played great 35 points
Duchess in pissing rain - 16 points including 7 blobs on the trot :uhoh:
Dukes - 26 points

comfortable mid table mediocrity

Did you try and risk the driver on the Duchess?

As I end up spraying my drive about quite a bit I find the Marquess the easiest course despite the length, love trying to go for the big carry on the split fairway par 5. It's not even that long a second just a huge risk if you hit it offline.

I could have used an axe to better effect on the Duchess.
It is narrow ,but the rain made it impossible for most of us

I had 8 points after 14 holes - managed to get 8 more on the last 4 though !

Marquess is great
The double fairway hole fooled me as I topped my drive and then hit a great 3 wood over the hill . only to find the abyss at the end !

One of those holes that you play differently next time !
