The Offical GAA Thread

Well after a great 2011 we are back on the Horse again and Kerry up first in Croker.

Will be a cracker. Missing too many to go for a win.

Doubt we make the League Semi's as Giller tries out a few more young 'uns.

Hurlers will not retain the League as half the team is nearly still out injured!!!

Roll on the Championship though as the Dubs go for the Double!!!!!! 8)

2012 will be the end of the world for all other counties. Cluchie fucks the lot of you. :D

It's going to be a very open football championship this year. Cork, Da Dubs, and kerry will be the three main favourites. Kildare will be good but as usual they'll fall short to a last minute wonder score or some bad refereeing.

From Corks point of view we have all our good forwards nearly back from injury so we;ll be good. Still having that retard in charge will hinder us though. Plus we're a bit light on backs.
The Dubs will be flying but they're no great shakes. They'll obviously be there or thereabouts. Like ourselves they're far from a wonder team but they'll be the ones to beat.
Kerry still have class forwards buts they have some weaknesses that negate that.
Donegal will be good but they may lose that element of surprise and teams may have copped them.

Who else are serious contenders? Tyrone?

I think he's a wit kant. Transferring for football reasons is bollox and goes against the fabric of the GAA.

Anyway, Dubs will have a suicide prevention charity SOS on their jersey on Sunday, good on the DCB and Vodafone for making it happen.

Did Cavan GAA reject the transfer last night? i thought I heard that they did. If it stays that way he'll have to wait the 96 weeks will he?

The fact he is transferring between provinces means it may not be 96 weeks. It's 96 weeks for inter club within a county. there's a pretty hight profile case of a cork u21 who is transferring and he is about half way through his sit out period. 96 weeks at his age is lunacy as he cant represent cork either.

Yeah Cavan county board referred it back to Croke Park because they don't believe he's actually living in Straffan (which he's not).

Bit of an embarrassment for Kildare GAA & Seanie at this stage. It should be dropped so we can concentrate on winning Leinster with the players we have.

I don't agree with transfers within a county in general. It will ruin the smaller clubs if there isn't a high tariff imposed on unagreed transfers. By and large the club will agree if there is a sensible reason for leaving.

He's tranferring from a small Junior A Club to a senior club 5 miles away. It has caused a lot of bad bad blood.

Dublin v Cork on now on TG4 in hurling so an hour to kill before the Le Crunch. Interesting to see how the Dubs go this year. Cork will improve under JBM no doubt about that.

Galway should have put the Dubs away in extra time with 2 men sent. Threw it away. The Dubs will win the next day, they'll put 2 or 3 on Canning, today showed how important he is in big games especially because the rest of the forwards are novices, and Hayes is struggling for form. Hopefully O Dwyer and McCrabbe are suspended

Just a hint - splits work the other way (provos split from the officials).

The GAA got lucky with the Mayo/Kerry result. They could get 40,000 on the 29th now (Kildare 12-13, Mayo 12-13, Tyrone 6-8, Cork 6-7). If Kerry had won they'd be looking at 30 max.

Clare did themselves proud v Kilkenny earlier, very young team with an average age of 23, to lose by 7 isn't the worse result. Div 1 hurling will stand us in good stead for next year or two at least.

Cork giving Tipp a fierce hiding here, in a good game of hurling I must admit.

You're actaully not far from the truth there. Mayo fans are the optimistic in the world. Any others fans would have thrown the towel in by this stage. They'll travel in droves.
Roll on next Sunday. Should be enjoyable.

Clare are going in the right direction anyway. Good little team.

Great to see Cork bounce back. I wasnt very optimistic after last season. I thought we were a few years away from having any sort of a decent team. Just goes to show the importance of a good manager.

Pathetic amateur sport.

I was watching that RTE clip of the Marys-Young Munster game back in 1993, when rugby was still completely amateur, and even then the players looked fitter stronger faster and more skilled than the GAA farmers and factory workers on display today.

Bearing im mind that rugby has since had 20 years of massive advances in fitness and conditioning, nutrition, sports science and skills development, and the difference between modern day rugby players and GAA players is truly night and day.

Supreme athletes compared to glorified pub league players.

How can you people bear to watch this amateur dross?

Boxy,

Lehane looks like some find, even though he was only on for a few short minutes looks absolutely class. Also McDonnell, Egan and Sweetman look pretty hand too. That said first half certainly was no where near championship intensity, the game against KK in the final will be interesting but the future does look pretty decent for Cork. Should be a good season ahead.
