FG will see that 20% as votes they already have. FG can look to their right and see one party of former FGers on less than 1% of the vote. To the left they will find the sixty odd percent they don't have. They basically won't give a shit about your little protest. It just means we'll get another unqualified loudmouth pulling the same stunt in 7 years time. Or probably less as 7 years is a long time for a really old man.camroc1 wrote:I voted 1- 2 Casey -Higgins.
It was a no brainer. Give FG a kick up the hole without doing any real damage.
And I very much hope they see where their electorate is after the aforementioned kick.

I know it’s hard to believe but I really miss Enda Kenny, a colossus compared to Varadkar.

Somewhere along the line liberal started mean everything should be paid for by the 'rich'.

We desperately need more centre/right journalists to stop any further hijacking of the media by people who account for a fraction of the voting electorate
Not bothering to vote is not the same as abstaining. 1 in 5 voters voted for an anti-PC candidate. That’s the bottom line.sewa wrote:So only 10% of the Irish voting age population fell for Caseys crap (40% abstained completely) . Not a bad result
Will you go away and shite for yourself. Its exactly the same as abstainingDuff Paddy wrote:Not bothering to vote is not the same as abstaining. 1 in 5 voters voted for an anti-PC candidate. Wrong. Abstaining is taking a conscious decision not to vote on protest grounds when that person would otherwise have voted. There is a second cohort who had no intention of ever voting and will not vote in the future either. Due to the poor quality of the field the first cohort was higher than normal in this election but you’re conflating the two cohorts to try to force through a dubious point.sewa wrote:Will you go away and shite for yourself. Indeed. Get off your arse and in to the polling station and spoil your vote if you want to make that point bDuff Paddy wrote:Wrong. There should be overseas voting for all Irish citizens for all elections.Liathroidigloine wrote:So young people choose which elections to vote in. No #cominghometovote.
100% disagree. Some guy living in Bondi should not have a say on how I’m governed.Flametop wrote:There should be overseas voting for all Irish citizens for all elections.Liathroidigloine wrote:So young people choose which elections to vote in. No #cominghometovote.
After all, not everybody left the country by choice.
I'm not sure we're well equipped for this and it'll be quickly overcome by dingbats of all colours.Flametop wrote:In so far as all the candidates were awful, it’s the “right” result.
We all know that Mickey D can do the meet and greet during the Six Nations with minimal fuss.
Sure, he’s dining out in style on taxpayers cash but, like all the others wouldn’t?
As has been pointed out, paying him a salary costs less than paying his pension along with a presidential salary for somebody else.
That said, we might have to pay for another vote sooner than seven years.
As much as I’m delighted a message has been sent to the travellers from one fifth of the country, I couldn’t bring myself to give that spoofer Casey a vote.
He might even have gotten in with the lazy turnout if enough people did a protest vote.
He has made an obvious and necessary point that no other politician or media type has the balls to do, but the role of president is a figure head with no power.
While the debate on travellers is long overdue, a populist opportunist is not somebody who deserves to represent Ireland. God knows what else he is capable of.

No doubt, but there is an unhealthy narrative being populated, pretending that the whole country bar a few bigots think that travellers are all right on but a bit misunderstood, full of fantastic culture that would enrich the rest of us if only they weren’t so oppressed. It’s good that the truth of the matter is starting to be heard and I reckon the figure of 20 percent on the matter is a lot lower than the reality ofUncle Fester wrote:I'm not sure we're well equipped for this and it'll be quickly overcome by dingbats of all colours.Flametop wrote:In so far as all the candidates were awful, it’s the “right” result.
