The only inside track I have is from a former England god of war who will remain nameless who visited PHP during the build up and suggested the atmosphere was like a morgue.

Reminds me of NZ under John Hart in 1998. Fabulous, almost unbeaten run in 1996-97 to five consecutive losses and complete disarray in 1998. Players hated the claustrophobic, smothering environment and couldn't wait to get back to their clubs/provinces.

Swings and roundabouts - Easter came in for a lot of flak after anonymous teammate(s) slagged him off for his jokes in defeat. Some players want banter, some players are a bit less interested in it. Easter is a practical joker type.

Not so long ago we all thought England had an embarrassment of riches at lock.

Now it looks like we will be starting an imported no 6 at lock. :(

Atwood is the perfect guy for this tour.

I hope we haven’t moved on from locks in the backrow to back rows at lock.

All joking aside- he looked really good the other week

Wtf is eddie playing at? It’s as if he’s handicapping the team to test them?

England do have an embarrassment of riches at lock. With a fit Launch, Kruis and Lawes back in harness we're not looking too shabby. The back five on this tour are certainly an area of concern though especially since those are positions of strength for South Africa. If we're not 0 for 2 after the weekend I will be pleasantly surprised.

In Eddie we.. .erm...

Yes. Yes we have. <facepalm>

Thankfully I'll be playing cricket on Sat and won't have to watch another of Eddie's 'tactical masterclasses'.

Any excuse for gifting Robslow another 25k match fee. Move his competition to lock.

Is "consistent" usually used as a synonym for "stubborn"?

In The Times today they're reporting that England held a 'crisis meeting' over indiscipline and the compounding effect it has.

Other highlights were Stephen Jones calling Robshaw the 'great untouchable' in a sarcastic way, implying he'd never be dropped from the team.

"Robshaw isn't a 7"

Something he said before taking charge. Once he actually became England coach he obviously changed his mind about Robshaw's suitability for test rugby, and the real problem was he went from considering Robshaw at 7 a good emergency option to being a live choice to start multiple matches.

Eddie is usually really predictable. And yes, stubborn.

I'm not sure I agree. What he said when writing newspaper columns is basically irrelevant. With England he's been pretty consistent.

Though he's changed from "it's all about winning" to something more flexible now the side is losing.

Very tough to call. I'd guess either a 6/2 split, or Shields on the bench and the Shields/Hughes combo again, with Isiekwe dropping out entirely.

I'd be tempted with the 6/2 split myself, with Isiekwe on the bench, along with Robshaw and Hughes.

The only inside track I have is from a former England god of war who will remain nameless who visited PHP during the build up and suggested the atmosphere was like a morgue.

Perhaps the players thought he was being brought in to coach defence.

In Times Owen Slot report quoted Hatley saying - hopefully ironically - that Blunder wick had been charged with reviving Isiekwe's spirits. Poor bastard may never play test rugby again if thats the cure Yoda believes is appropriate

What’s borthwick going to say? Study the line out more closely?

D) borthwick building a pack in his image
E) calm down

In Times Owen Slot report quoted Hatley saying - hopefully ironically - that Blunder wick had been charged with reviving Isiekwe's spirits. Poor bastard may never play test rugby again if thats the cure Yoda believes is appropriate
 enjoying 'Blunderwick', he hasn't copped enough shit on here since his England playing days

Launch fit means Shields at 6 or Robshaw to retain?

He could play Shields at 8 and have BV as an impact sub. Billy clearly isn't test match fit more than about 30 mins.

We'll still see a flanker at Lock, at some point during the game.

Will he go the full 'Andy Robinson' and have Shields at 8 and Hughes at 6?

Odds on having a flanker at lock and a lock at flanker simultaneously?
