Never, other than BC (which is mandatory winters) there is no regulations like this (setting aside commercial vehicles).

They rented one a while back and really loved it. My sister is very excited to have eventually bought one, she loves staying right by the sea. And, whilst they are silly money - they are also still a good investment - but that's not what she's bought it for.

They can rent out for £1000+ per week - but they don't intend to do that, preferring to have it always available and for the rest of the (extended) family to use.

It's pretty common for them to invoke the 'chains or 4wd' requirement, but I 've only once been required to put chains on the 4wd, but it was pretty icy and the road is fairly steep. And to add to the difficulty, it wa a weekend and fairly busy meaning you sometimes had to hang back before approaching some of the steeper bits (as you had to make sure you weren't going to have to stop partway up because of a car in front of you).

They actually had a V8 4WD ute with chains on that was helping some cars up some parts. It had a bit pad on the front and would ease up behind the car and push them up the hill.

West of Scotland so not remote and only scary in a non-weather-way.

You should have come in to say hello since you went past my house. I've had to tow 3 stuck cars and an Asda delivery van over the last few days.

When you say ‘half the single track road is closed in winter’, are you talking about the Lawers road? It is not ploughed or gritted so people who overestimate their vehicles abilities die up there. I assume that if you were heading up the hills you knew what you were doing, but it is outright astonishing how many people try their luck with totally inappropriate vehicles and no shovels, boots, warm clothes etc.

Coincidentally on Saturday I took my Discovery with all terrain tyres up some local forest / hydro tracks just to see what I could get through. There was no risk as I know the tracks and went up slopes, but not down the other sides so if I did get stuck, I could back down the hill. What these things can do with proper tyres, raised suspension and on snow setting is quite staggering.

Found Microsoft has already suspended back up services for phones on Win 8.1, the only way they can be backed up, fuck them, fuck them, fuck them.

Spot on, we were heading for the pair of Mealls but got to about 650m and decided to turn back. Just too deep to enjoy the walk and not a technically difficult excursion to warrant all that effort. We wild camped at the sign which says, “Danger no snowploughs used beyond here”. Had an amazing camp in a glorious setting and then headed up the following morning.

Aren't Wranglers and Duratec the same thing?

I had Wranglers on my Grand Cherokee long time ago. Great offroad, poor on. General Grabbers are the tyre of choice on Land Rover products in this part of the world for general on / off road use. I've used AT, AT2 and prefer the AT3. The AT2 looks more aggressive but I've never found anything for my needs the AT3 can't cope with, and it is better on road. Though the AT2 may be better in conditions I'm not brave enough to attempt. However, at the weekend the Disco with AT3s got up a mile slope when a Mitsubishi with huge chunky tyres (do not know what) could only manage 100m of the shallow slope at the bottom.

Not sure there's a version for a Rolls though.

Edin, yes you’re right - I’ve spent a bit of time working through the tyre reviews and got them around my neck a bit. It was Duratec (aka Wrangler) which I was struggling to find in 255/55 R20. But I found the General Grabber in AT, AT2 and AT3 for a decent price. Was leaning towards the 3...

Yeah, it's not bad, at least I can back it up to my computer. Better as a phone too, no more complaints people can't hear me. Better internet experience also. But the Windows Nokia had much the better swipe keyboard. Also took me a while to find a suitable substitute for OneNote. I'd like this Xperia Z5 Compact with the Nokia keyboard. Fer shure, the pink one with a burgundy leather case from Snakehive.
