It's quite a happening spot now. With late night lines outside bars starting to rival the old Strip.

Yes indeed, it will only become more lively when it starts to fill out a bit more.

I was asking past the remaining premises at sol square on the weekend and am pleased to see some gutting of previous fittings getting ready for its new fit out.

Do you know what the new fit out plans are? It was a great spot before the quakes. Used to love going through the hold in the wall in the Cleaners Only bar. A bar that almost seemed hidden away.

They've been trying to capture some of that vibe in some of the newer developments, although not always successfully yet.

Sorry missed this.. As far as I'm aware some of the same branding will be used again, although with Dave Henderson back in charge who knows.. I have a friend who is looking at reopening the old Base nightclub as all bars in that area have grandfathered rights to open & close times. So 3-5am licences which will be the only ones in town. I know that area was always designated as late night entertainment on the city blueprint

Someone dial a tram? :o

Lovely boutique eatery’s, kind of reminds me of Whangarei’s own “Quality Street”

You didn't miss it. I just took ages before coming back to the thread. You've answered the question within a day. Would be nice to have SOL square back. It will link in nicely with Strangers Lane the bars in the Dux Central / Salt quarter area. And a 5am closing will give it a point of difference.

There's a great little bar just to the left of the bottom photo.

That's my mate Baz wearing the height of fashion at the nostalgia festival (proove it isn't...)

Anyway, here's a shot of the Cathedral taken at the weekend.

Well, haven't I been slack. Here's some pics from about 2 weeks ago. More gaps being filled and more life returning to the city.

From the Lyttleton to Sumner road that has finally reopened after the quakes.

And these were taken from the Taylor's Mistake walkway.

Still some shattered dreams about. I wonder what will become of this place. Has it been written off? Are they still arguing about insurance? Who knows.

Some funny old places in the city proper as well. This one in Sumner on top of a rock. Although I'm not sure of it's post quake status.
