Thanks J.

This clock tower is going to be repaired. They were talking about leaving one clock face frozen as a memorial (the clock stoped at the time of the quake), but have decided against it.

Image

This old building is also being saved.

Image

Unfortunately this one wasn't and is now a vacant lot.

The old council chambers is being repaired so will hopefully look like this again in the future (the stone tower parts collasped as did the main chamber).

So looks like this at the moment

And the new one is open for business again.

New bars have opened up where ever they could find space. This is the Volstead trading company which is in an old workshop in Riccarton. It has big metal rollor doors which they cover with some big curtains from an old theatre when they're closed. Have the Moa range of beers and and a changing range of other craft beer on tap. One of the silver linings of the quakes is that many bars have been able to set up free of their big brewery contracts which limited what they were allowed to sell.

The old Dux de Lux brewery, restuarant and bars is still closed with no word on when or if it will reopen. It was leased from the arts centre who are focusing on repairs to the rest of the centre at this stage.

Image

So they have opened a live music venue in an old workshop in Addington called Dux Live

Image

Image

And a restuarant / bar in an old house in Riccarton called Dux Dine

The revival bar is built out of shipping containers on a vacant lot in Victoria street. Food is available from a kabab cart in the courtyard.

A temporary art gallery called the art box project taking advantage of some of the new space around the city. The straps holding the dinner table and chairs were all made out of quake support wrist bands.

And this is in the botanical gardens.

To be fair, that pics is from before the quakes really made it shitty.

C1 Expresso is making a rooftop vinyard. Has only been open for special events so far though, so not sure when it will be finished.

My wife and I stopped in at the Port Hole when we went to Lyttleton last November, fantastic little bar! Very friendly place. Also had a few at the Wunderbar across the road.

Good times.

I still struggle to get my head around it and I live here!

Kiwias, I walk through the park several times a week. Always puts me in a good mood.

Trapper, it's a great we bar alright. And usually has some craft beer options. Wunderbar is always fun as well. I'm glad it survived. Alway thought it felt a bit like walking into a Quentin Tarantino movie. Here's some shots of it for those who don't know it.
