Looked impressive for a buy making his debut. I guess they must have been impressed with him in training as they normally put a prospect in with a stiff for their debut. the guy last night obviously wasn't one of those even if he was dispatched quick time.
No idea how he will react under pressure. Never looked comfortable as am amateur but then he wasn't in the game that long. Doubt the public will have the patience to let him have 20 fights against "Mexican road sweepers"

That other British Olympic kid looked pretty handy last night too. Tremendous hand speed.

Looks like a physical specimen. Will get much stiffer competition than that though.

Are you pissed off because he is not an Anglo Saxon or Celt. Do you consider him to be a "naturalized citizen"

The Wlad Vs Povetkin fight was absolutely dire.

Well, on the plus side it's a first round stoppage in his first fight, which is what Joshua was sent out to do. On the other hand he still looks stiff and has poor defence even against that standard of opposition, so that's a worry.

Hard to say much else because I'd fancy my chances against Leo.

Shame Larry Ekundayo didn't get to fight on the undercard.

This is why I really think Hearn has to spend good money on getting this guy to learn his trade behind closed doors. He really is not going to get any slack from the public learning his trade in public.

I don't buy into the hype. He would be a nobody if the judges hadn't given him a hometown call last summer.

The I-tye looked pretty useless, and Joshua looks like he'll be easy to hit.

Indeed. Every fight he has will be a national event. And he hasn't even learned how to throw a right hand properly yet. There'll be tears before bedtime.

I've seen enough novice heavyweights to know that if he has a decent chin he will probably earn a lot of money.

Joshua fighting tonight on the Brook v Senchenko under card
Anthony Joshua's second professional opponent believes he is 'mad' to have chosen to fight him so early in his career.

Veteran heavyweight Paul Butlin has only won 14 of his 33 bouts but the 37-year-old has faced the likes of Dereck Chisora and Johnathon Banks.

And he has warned Joshua to expect a tough night in Sheffield on Saturday

'I will bring non-stop aggression,' said Butlin. 'It is common sense, I can’t keep it long. I am going to have to put it on him from round one. If I don’t, he will stop me. The reach on him, the speed of him, the power of him, if I don’t put it on him then I will get stopped.

'It doesn’t matter how muscly you are, you can’t change your jaw – you could have the best body in the world but it doesn’t make you the best boxer, it doesn’t mean you have a good jaw. On Saturday that is what I am going to do – test his jaw.

This opponent's record reveals he's accustomed to losing at a low level, can't punch, and can't take a punch.

won 14 (KO 3) + lost 19 (KO 8 )

Probably for the best right now. Joshua has a LOT to work on.

He is a novice so it's not exactly a shock

Absolutely. His first 10 fights will be against utter non-threats whilst he works on the basics and builds his confidence. I was just making the point to add balance to his words in the article you posted of "testing Joshua's jaw". The only thing this guy will be testing is how comfy the ring canvas is to lay on face-first. My mother would slap this fat ass about.

What I am concerned about is Joshua's right hand. Even at this novice stage, he should be able to throw it correctly. Maybe he just can't...

Well it looks like they will be doing a Tyson and have him fighting every 3 weeks or so. It will be easy enough to gauge if he is improving or not.

Joshua hits hard. Good handspeed too for a guy of his size.

Can't believe the ref didn't stop it sooner though.

They put him in with a guy who has taken Chisora the distance twice. It was only his second fight.

He's 24.

Both the Klitchklos will be gone within 5 years and the rest of the division is garbage. I don't see why he couldn't be.

Chisora is shit. And he's not a puncher.

He 'could' but at one stage Audley Harrison 'could' have been too, it was just the absolute certainty with which he said. Not 'could be' but 'will be'

Unless they find out he can't take a punch it shouldn't be that hard to guide him to one of the many heavyweight championships at a minimum.

He may have been in with some semi decent people but I don't think Joshua's people would have put him in with some one good this early.

Gotta build the hype

The rest of the decision is dross compared to the Klitchkos but unless Joshua starts to have someone test him they could well all be better than him.

Guys like Pulev are undefeated.

Povetkin went to points with Wlad.

And Boytsov is the exciting one to watch.

27, 33 fights - 0 losses - 26KO

It's never a simple as that is it? AH was a good amateur fighter, but couldn't handle the pros, not the first wont be the last either. It remains to be seen if AJ can. Until then proclaiming him a 'future world champion' is premature.

No one would put a prospect in with a decent fighter for their second fight. I was just making the point the guy was expected to take a beating for a few rounds at least

I saw many of Harrisons amateur fights and all his professional fights and I stand by what I said. He didn't like fighting. Most of the time he stunk the place out through just not throwing any punches. Maybe it would have been a bit different if the BBC hadn't thrown all that money at him straight away but not much
