Star Trek Discovery has turned to shit these last few episodes, really gone off the show since they did the whole mirror universe thing, so dumb.

The Mirror Universe is a staple of the writers since TOS so not surprised to hear they reuse that device yet again. A couple of those crossover episodes in DS9 were pretty good but the last couple they did were poor. Are they still milking the malfunctioning Holodeck plot device too?

A little bit of humour here and there wouldn’t hurt either. Other than that
It started quite well is the thing, but around episode 4/5 of season 1, you started to realise plots/themes were going nowhere or being dragged out.
It turned into typical TV fairly quick, I'll give it a few more episodes, but I'm close to giving up on it.

Could've done something interesting if they had maybe just made 1 series, 1 story beginning to end.

I'm still watching each episode (although I don't rush to it as soon as they become available), but it's fairly meh. It's a strange mix. Visually stunning, obviously, and some good characters/acting (Lorca); but some of the main plot points are just pants.

I like the premise. Warship (as opposed to exploration vessel) developed as the Federation's response to the Klingon conflict, Lorca being a captain willing to do what he wants outside of the usual boundaries to achieve his mission, new secret technology to help with this. All fairly well-worn tropes, but still compelling.
When you get to the meat of it, though, it just doesn't quite come together. The spore-drive is so ridiculous that I can't suspend disbelief enough, which is saying something, considering that it's Star Trek. Bernam, while suppose to be a complex and conflicted lead, just isn't all that likeable. Some of the attempts to introduce "human" elements to the story feel a bit forced, too. The clumsy gay relationships between the spore scientists, the awkward ginger one feels like she should be in a romcom, etc.

Fringe did parallel universes better.

Also, I'm confused about the latest twist/development. As far as I can make out, the guy who was captured by the Klingons was forced to have sex with his captor and then somehow she transferred her consciousness to his body? I was too distracted trying to see if they showed Klingon nipples in the flashback scenes.

Only two months until season 3 of The Expanse. Really enjoy that slightly gritty more realistic* sci-fi.

*Apart from the super alien protomolecule virus, obviously.

6/10 would bang, Paul Bettany is really good
Cheers, really enjoyed that
Thought Worthington was pretty good but yeah Bettany was outstanding

Anybody watching Britannia? Two episodes in and can't decide whether it's enjoyable nonsense or annoying shit. Severely lacking in historical accuracy so far.

GLOW has been mentioned...terrific show, quirky fun with a bit of drama...I remember watching the actual GLOW wrestling when I was a young fella.
Also been watching Mindhunter..outstanding, period piece about the FBI 's humble beginnings when it came to criminal profiling in the late 60's -70's.
Itching for Better Call Saul season 3 and hoping Fargo goes another season.

I watched the first episode. I really want to like it but it's going to be difficult. I've given up on the historical accuracy part and there's too much of the supernatural.

Yep, I thought it was really compelling and easily stands up with the other two. How good are the writers at coming up with some of the characters, V.M. Varga, Lorne Malvo, Wes Wheeler and Mr. Numbers, Paul Marrane, Yuri.

Duff mentions McGregors accent, initially I was put off by that but I like McGregor anyway so I thought he put in a very good performance as Emmit and Ray. I think Michael Stuhlbarg was really good too, as perhaps one of the more decent characters. David Thewlis in a class of his own though.

Varga, Nikki and Sy - just three outstanding characters wonderfully realised. Agreed that McGregor did a good job also.

Started watching Dirty Money on Netflix - documentary series.

Skipped past the VW emissions scandal one and watched the payday loans scandal, the pharmaceutical hedge funds price gouging one and the HSBC money laundering one.

Pretty good, succeeds in getting you nice and angry like the Smartest Guys in the Room did.

I am going to watch the Trump business dealings one next, I expect I might punch my TV

It is utter shit, had high hopes, a bit like a SA super rugby side, it promised much but delivered fudge all
The absence of historical accuracy is deeply disappointing.

We're up to episode 4 and, whilst it's enjoyable nonsense, it's well below the standard of GoT, Rome, Vikings etc, and leads me to suspect that there may be something of the Emperor's New Clothes about Jez Butterworth.

i am still enjoying the new star trek, lets be honest the plots are mental, but they have managed the trick of making it relevant (in a modern tv series sense again), ie lots of short term action. Try going back to enterprise after this.

good twist to introduce michelle yeoh and kill her in the first episode. Then the new captain is presented as a renegade hero winning the war for several episodes, then it turns out hew is from another (evil) universe and is basically a wit kant, also there where michelle pops up again as an evil version, who might have redeeming qualities if only she is brought back to the good universe. Either way they have just killed the action loving hero captain just after they suckered you in, before revealing he was a fraud.

when did tv get so obsessed with having to blow your mind on each episode?

Trek and Good place are great, both have another seasons coming :D Glad Yeoh is back, hope Isaacs is coming back we never did find out what happened to Prime Lorca, theory going around that the bit of funghi that went into tilly was him.

Counterpart though, promised a lot and I'm just feeling they're wasting the talent and the core plot device in 2nd ep.

Alienist despite the great cast I feel the plot/characters has been done to death (getting into the mind of depraved killers, going against the grain, spotting things others don't etc etc) but as it's just 5 episodes I will probably finish it.

Shield has been great this season.

ALias grace was a great limited series.
