That's the thing you had trouble believing?

With regards to the original quote, it's interesting that if you read other fan reviews where people sort of like it, they often fall into two categories...those that liked the beginning, but thought the end was meh, and those that struggled to get into it, but really liked the ending.

I'm not sure what it means, but I found it interesting.

Found this show on netflix...

Pretty funny but seems a bit dated...
A couple of the characters seem a bit off...... everyone seems to be trying to bonk each other.

Not really sure if they are poking fun at special needs adults or if that is just some kind of american humor....

It is called Friends.....

Everything suck! on Netflix is quite fun. Great if you were a 90's kid. I downloaded the soundtrack on Spotify and have been listening to it all day.

The second episode did not disappoint. The story is building very nicely.

Fake. No way they could afford those apartments doing what they do for a living.

Also, and this is not a knock against the fans, but has anyone abandoned Altered Carbon because they just didn't give a shit about anyone in it? I imagine it gets much better, plotwise, but I found I'd gone through three eps and just don't give a hoot.

It is a critics job to write a review that a semi intelligent human can read and be able to work out whether or not they will like a show/movie. That is what made Barry Norman a good critic, he could give a glowing review of a movie and you could go "ok but it doesn't sound like my cup of tea" or a bad review and you would be able to realise it would still be up your street - based on his review, not the genre of the movie. Very few critics actually do this well, they are obsessed with their own insights and taste when they are usually just opinionated morons and when faced with something they don't understand they slate it or worship it because they can't work out whether it is too stupid or too clever for them.
Shit review 2/10 not worth the time reading.

I guess I stuck with it as I'm a massive fan of the books/author.

I got annoyed from Episode 6 as that's where it diverges (For no real reason - it's not like they needed to).

I'd stick it out

The main protagonist does become more likeable as the season progresses.

Yeah, it doesn't come across well at the beginning but he's supposed to be a Cunce at first. Part of his survival technique

It'd be more of an investment (timewise), but I'm more inclined to give the books a go.

Don't Listen to Bindi, they are very, very good.

I enjoyed the series but it doesn't come close.

Just finished Fargo season 1.
Brilliant, and the story was wrapped up nicely in the season!

Does each season follow that self contained format?

Don't know how the show qualifies as a comedy, though it obviously has humour.

Season 2 is even better, though more of a period piece as it’s set in the late 70s and as such benefits from a sweetass soundtrack.

Season 3 a bit more uneven but still high quality.

Re the books.
Spoiler: show
The book where there's a civil war and an ancient alien space ship, would that make a good series

I haven't heard of anyone who agrees with me but season 3 is actually my favourite. Best characters. Love them all though of course. Best show going at the moment.

Altered Carbon was slow hard work, Ortega was aparticularly disappointing, she looked to be heading to being a strong character but after a couple episodes she sucked. Maybe I'll try to watch a few more episodes.

I think the fact that Kovacs is a gruff arsehole means that not every moment of dialogue he's involved in is highly animated. Could be mistaken for poor writing or acting.
Ortega's parts are much more animated and emotional. Fits the character, though. Some of Quel's preachy exposition monologues drag a bit, but they're necessary to advance the plot and character development.

Has anyone watched the series A Very Secret Service? A French comedy-drama set in 1960s France, following a new member of their Secret Service and his superiors through some typical (historical?) events from the time?

I'm three eps in and like it a lot. Regular chuckles, good acting, solid time capsule of the era (at least my impressions of it) in both look and attitudes.

Finished. Really fun series, like a cross between Tinker, Tailor and Get Smart, with a lot of humour against French history and general attitudes of the period.

If not on your Netflix, it all seems to be here with English subs
