Waiting for it to finish before watching it, but I saw the ending of the episode, very well done.

I wonder if Dr. Manhattan will actually feature or if he's just totally gone.

I finally get the appeal of the American Office, it's fairly and easy to binge.
Though you can tell it's really reaching the end of the road come season 7.

Like I said earlier in the thread, they've been dropping big foreshadowing bombs regarding him, so my bet is very much yes.

Catherine the Great - it's pants. Russia has some better versions with smaller budget. Screenplay is terrible.

Been watching The Wire. It's good, if a bit of a slow burn. Season 3 and 4 were great. But what's up with Season 5? The tone seems off and the serial killer thing is just weird. Also McNulty really is an asshole.

nice to see Alan Tudyk on ROOKIE, gave me a firefly vibe..2 actors from CASTLE already cameo a few weeks back, hoping for Stana and that hottie that played his daughter in castle to cameo on it too..

Yep, shot four days - weeks apart - as an extra on different sets outside Cardiff. I did some of the finest 'walking around carpark' work you are ever likely to see, and some other scenes where I was a parent. No idea which episodes they'll be in.

Was cracking fun - Gillian Anderson is very wonderful, turned the air blue on the rare occasions she got lines wrong and although us extras were on strict instruction not to approach the 'stars' everyone was fairly open and friendly. The headmaster guy was a riot in between takes, too.

They reckon that 40 million people will watch this season on Netflix, I'm assuming it will open up a lot of work for me as 'bald guy in background'.

Watched the first episode of War of the Worlds on BBC last night
I was really looking forward to the first adaptation set in there same period as the book
I was concerned how it would go from minute one when the “No one could believe in the last years of the nineteen century....” speech (which can only be done properly by richard burton) was done by a woman.
Fears were fully realised by ten minutes in
What a great big steaming pile of horse sh1t it was

You have one of the greatest works of fiction to base your story in, how can you balls it up so badly?

Makes the Tim Cruise one look decent

Firefly reunions in shows are always tinged with a mixture of sadness and joy.

Yeah, I wouldn't hold my breath on Stana Katic showing up, she and Nathan Fillion weren't even speaking by the end of Castle; she hates him.

Why Alan Tudyk isn't a bigger actor is beyond me, he's convincingly playing something different almost every time I see him.

I'm enjoying that Rookie has gone back to somewhat lower level policing now (even if the rookies are still ending up in a hilariously improbably number of firefights).

Although series 1 petered out a bit towards the end I was pleasantly surprised by this.

I met Helen Mirren at the premier of Catherine the Great, she is tiny and I agree the first episode of the drama did not encourage me to watch the second.

He randomly appeared in an episode of Justified as a hitman.

I remember first watching that episode, '*squee* it's Alan Tudyk!', and being plesantly surprised by how menacing he was.

He's always been a very gifted, likeable comedic actor (he's brilliant as somewhat manic dentist in Suburgatory which I think is, for it's first couple of seasons at least, a massively underrated, quietly subversive satire) and like many such people is more than capable at turning his hand to straight roles.

I bailed on season 5 about halfway through. I thought it was preposterous, and I have always found it odd that many people acknowledge it as the all time greatest show with such a weak closing season.

David Simon is great, but part of season 5 was him pounding out a message on newspapers. In Treme, he let Bourdain write ridiculous restaurant plots. No nuance. Brilliant man but those were not his finest moments.

quite a lot of acclaimed shows have some very weak spots, I guess it's hard to maintain A* quality over a long span - The Sopranos and Twin Peaks spring to mind. Though Breaking Bad (as far as I remember) stayed strong through the duration.

On Treme, I gave up midway through Season 2 not because of ridiculous plots but because I felt there was, well, no real plot at all. That said, it absolutely *nails* New Orleans life in the main (speaking as someone who knows the city very well)

Airs Wednesday in UK
Really enjoyed the latest episode.
Struck the right balance between humour, ridiculousness and melancholy.
Oftentimes the show has Dan Harmon's fingerprints on too much, he can let his his personal issues and demons overbear on the show to the point it's obvious (imo).

This one didn't do that but was still suitably sad.

S5 is nowhere near as bad as some like to make out, it's the comparison with the other seasons that's the issue. Oddly enough I've never watched Treme, it's Simon's only show I haven't watched but the subject has just never interested me. Although, I'm sure I'll get around to it some day.

I think Breaking Bad had a brilliant pilot then struggled through it's first season and much of its second, S3 was it's first season deserving of the hype. But then again Breaking Bad doesn't even edge my top 10 of all time so I'm not on the same page as many with that show.

That is a fair description of Treme. I liked the cast and the characters (except for the DJ guy), so I stuck with it.

I'm more of a BB fan than the Wire, but no doubt even the great shows have some lulls. As I recall the penultimate season of The Americans just seemed like a placeholder for the final run.

Off the top of my head I have likely found some lesser known shows like Louie and Better Call Saul more consistent. With the former I may just be remembering the good episodes though, and it wasn't as much of a serial.

As someone who enjoys New Orleans particular milieu of Jazz, Blues, Funk etc. Treme was a decent enough show to have on in the background while I noodled on my bass, occasionally joined in with what was on screen. It gave a pretty authentic representation of Mardi Gras Indians too, not a group with a long history of appearing on screen. It definitely didn't have any semblance of a plot.

I never made it through the first series of BB and haven't felt compelled to try again despite (possibly because of; contrarian streak) the high praise.

As a contrarian myself I been a late adapter with several shows, and it makes it hard for them to live up to the hype.

I watched Justified recently and it was fun and entertaining, but in my opinion not anywhere approaching great.

See I think that's magnificent, but my tastes skew to very well executed pulp and oddities.

My little theory on that is people who watch a lot of stuff are harder to impress, but the big shows (or shows that end up that way) draw in a lot of more casual or occasional content consumers who are far more likely to lavish praise as the quality on display is, to them, somewhat novel and/or atypical.
