Some of the pictures on twitter of Philly are fairly wild. They're scaling the gates of city hall, turned cars over and things are on fire.

Well that was thoroughly enjoyable.

Cleaned up on the prop bets too.
I had $20 on a combo bet of Eagles +4.5 and total points of more than 48.5. $68 back. Thanks, mutual leaky defences!
Word. I got:
Eagles 1st quarter
Eagles 2nd quarter
Total Points over 48.5
2nd half to be highest scoring half.
Thought I had put on Foles for MVP as well but mustn't have confirmed it dammit.

Managed to get both top scorers in the 20/20 the other night too. Been a profitable couple of days as far as my minnow level sports betting goes. Now to withdraw it all before I blow it.

The only thing the Superbowl decided was whether Philly was going to get trashed by fans who were happy or sad. [/SethMeyers]

Seriously well done Eagles, Nick Foles made a complete Stephen Donald out of himself.

I only watched the highlights as I passed out way before it started. I did like Philly and the over plus Amendola total yards which were all winners.

Why was there such shrieking by the commentators over the Ertz TD? He was clearly a runner and broke the plane.

We didn't get that either. Review should have taken 3 seconds and Collinsworth needed to shut the fcuk up.

Yeah, more than any of the other major sporting finals you can normally always rely on the Super Bowl to deliver a good game. Patriots Super Bowls in particular always seem to be exciting and come down to the wire.

There have been some absolute classics in the last 10 years or so, with lots coming down to the last play.

Giants-Pats x 2
Cards-Steelers
Ravens-49ers
Pats-Seahawks
Pats-Falcons

Even Packers-Steelers had the ball back in Big Bens hands with a chance to win it on a 2 minute drill and the Saints-Colts was up in the air until the Porter interception.

Only the Broncos two Superbowls were a bit lack-luster.

No pass interference calls last night, and on 93 called pass plays, not once did the offensive lines get called for a holding penalty.

Stanley Cup Playoffs refereeing?

Same happens at RWC playoffs and final (in fact most comp finals)

as a Denver fan, here's the one I saw

55-10 loss to the Niners when I was 7 years old
win over the Packers - best one due to Elway finally winning after getting losses in the late '80s where he had no help, he easily could've been Dan Marino's twin in retirement for Super Bowls for both of them
win over the Falcons - no one bought the Falcons as a legitimate threat to win entering, game lived up to that
43-8 loss to the Seahawks - I also slid off the road on ice the next morning and destroyed the windshield of my Jeep
win over the Panthers - Peyton Manning wins as a geriatric and Cam Newton gets pummeled by the Denver D

Yeah. The NFL's head of officiating Riveron has been heavily criticized this year. Combined with Goodell saying he wants the catch rules simplified this offseason, it seems they made a decision to go ahead and change it early with that one Eagles touchdown. I just want pass interference especially called consistently because it's so subjective to start with.

Amazing game and reassuring that great coaching can't overcome all obstacles, that Pats front is diabolical and as bad as any in the league.

McDaniels and Peterson shot the lights out all night, incredible play-calling.

With the Vikings screwing up a home SB chance this year...can the Falcons become the first team to play in a home SB next year?

^^^

It was, he had his left foot down BEFORE he dragged it out.

You only saw it on the replay from the left (touchline side).
The left foot dragged up some dirt (or crumb rubber?) from the astroturf.
That foot finally finished up straddling the line, but it was down beforehand.

It wasn't mentioned in commentary, but they were too busy twisting their knickers over the "Catch Rule", but it was clearly visible.
I reckon that's why it was given.

And besides, Patriots can go Tuck (Rule) themselves.

The ball is not secured though.

Based on the calls they overturned against Austin Sefarian-Jenkins and Kelvin Benjamin then I don't see how it's a TD using that standard.

Apparently Gronk's house was broken into while the game was on.

http://www.espn.co.uk/nfl/story/_/id/22 ... gronkowski

Police are investigating a break-in at the home of New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski in Foxborough, Massachusetts, they confirmed Tuesday morning.
In a recording of the call Monday between responding officers and dispatch, a dispatcher said, "multiple safes and possibly guns" were taken.
Foxborough Police Chief William Baker on Tuesday would not say when the robbery happened or what was taken from the house, but he did say that Gronkowski was away at Super Bowl LII when the break-in occurred.
"There were items stolen," Baker told reporters Tuesday morning. "We're not going to release the nature of the items stolen.

Police are refusing to say what was stolen - so I'm guessing it was the Donald Trümp Sex Tape

This is breaking news. Colts had a press conference setup for tomorrow to announce McDaniels as the new head coach, and McDaniels has chosen at the last minute to stay with New England after they made an aggressive push to keep him.

Two options:
-Belichick actually is retiring
-Belichick is sticking around for 2018 but is not long for coaching, and McDaniels is heir apparent

This is most likely.

Sucks for the Colts who were looking forward to a returning Andrew Luck, poosibly Barkley in the draft a great offensive at coach.

Back to the drawing board - with most of the good coaches already off the market.

A certain irony for the Chiefs.
They didn't think they had a QB who could win the Superbowl so they traded up to get Mahomes will now start him having traded away Alex Smith.

The irony is that a month before they drafted Mahomes they released their backup QB - a certain Nick Foles

Enormous money for a basically unproven guy. Hard to judge him based on the limited amount of play he has actually had but he's undoubtedly very promising so I guess you've got to roll the dice and pay whatever if you are the 49ers.

The hype has certainly been heavy for a guy who managed only 7 TDs in 6 games and threw 5 picks. Kevin Patra's piece on NFL.com seems to be anointing him the second coming of Joe Montana already.

Still, a resurgent 49ers is a good thing for the league. The NFL West should be all about SF vs LA not those second tier Seahawks and Cardinals. :P
