Niall Malone, the hidden man of the Ulster coaching team (and a fairly rubbish coach going by my experiences with him), wheeled out before press yesterday.

Say's Edinburgh are the best they've been in several years, that he hopes the Gibbes' rumours are false as Ulster need stability, and confirms Payne is the likely defence coach next season.

Malone is another bluffer. Shoukdn't be allowed near a professional rugby setup.

Our skills coach. :uhoh:

He coached me in the past, can't say he's any great shakes.

Would seem to be the near universal report on him, jobs for the boys eh though?

Probably me - had been shown a photo of the man from Dubai, taken in company of an evening. Context was "guess the pro athlete - he's Irish".

None of us got it. The man looked gaunt. Now better to a lean mean fighting machine when not playing than going to seed but was still a fair bit taken aback at just how lean he looked.

Think middle distance runner rather than power athlete.

Anyhow. Hope he comes back as good as ever and gets to retire on his own terms. Deserves that and more.

Pretty sure it's been mentioned that it'll be a week too soon for Ringrose, so ROL in. Looks good otherwise.

Hopefully they don't rush Heaslip back. For his own sake but also because Deegan is tearing it up at the minute.

Feels really weird to be saying it but Ulster are running short on backs for this weekend.

Ireland duty - Stockdale
Court Case - Olding, Jackson
Injured - Bowe, Trimble, Piutau, Lyttle, Payne

Leaves the following senior backs fit:

SH: Cooney, P.Marshall (unknown availability due to ill child), Shanahan
FH: McPhillips, Herron (Shite)
centre: L. Marshall, McCloskey, Cave
Back three: Gilroy, Ludik, Nelson

Would not surprise me to see us calling in Curtis from the u20s as bench cover

Bowe and Trimble are back this week apparently

Thought Bowe was out for at least another month

There were photos of Bowe on the pitch (running and passing) at last week's Captain's Run .

McCall
Herring
Herbst
Treadwell
AOC
Rea
Henry
Reidy
Cooney
McPhillips
Gilroy
McCloskey
Marshall
Trimble
Ludik

Andrew
Warwick
Ah You
Dalton
Deysel?
Stewart
Nelson
Cave

REidy is out. Timoney to come in with Deysel or Jones benching I'd have thought.

I'd expect to see DOS and GG at lock and Marshall at hooker, if training was anything to go by.
Sherry on the bench.

Back 3 could have Turnip and ROM also.

Rugby Paper reported a few weeks ago that he was likely to join Exeter as a replacement for Lachie Turner

It was the rugby pass that reported it. Prob made up. Just seemed very very left field.

Edit a sneaky google tells me haleys mom is Irish. Although has played for saxons it’s unclear if he actually played against a team who were designated second team.

Nice MVP- real nice. Keep this shit on the down low but Leinster have signed sponsorship with Samsung and all season ticket holders are getting actual Samsung usb micro cables next season.

Knock on, surely? Ball went forward to beat a covering player.

Some questions for Leinster going forward:

Will Peter Dooley remain at the province next season?
Can Bryan Byrne push on in the hooker position?
What will happen with squad second rows - Mick Kearney/Ian Nagle?
Will Isa Nacewa be a playing member of the leinster squad next season?
Will Dave Kearney be a leinster player next season or will his demotion behind several younger back three players lead to him moving this summer?
Which academy players will be given senior deals next season, which will be released and which will be given another season in the academy?

Would like to see Oliver get more gametime and give a pre-season like break to Cloete after coming up straight from Super Rugby and CC.

Kleyn will likewise be playing a rake of games in the next few weeks so maybe give O'Shea or Grobler a start alongside Mr Indestructible?

Are we at "we need to talk about JJ" time yet? He's a fine footballer but he's no 10.

We were talking about this in our club the other night, turns out it's a penalty.

http://laws.worldrugby.org/?law=11&language=EN

11.3 and 11.7
A player must not intentionally knock the ball forward with hand or arm. Sanction: Penalty

A player must not intentionally throw or pass the ball forward. Sanction: Penalty

1. I would welcome him with open arms at Ulster - seems a nice lad as well.
2. If he can hit his jumpers consistently, he has all the attributes to be a good player.
5. I'd still offer him a contract, he is a good player and given the amount of time the likes of Lamour and Bryne will be with Ireland, you might need him. Can't see him being in too much demand overseas.

Yeah - think we need to start seeing him as a 12/15, he hasn't really pushed on at 10
