No
Why don't Ulster rugby simply move their HQ across to one of the three counties and pay the lads through there. If the players are willing to move over the border they could avail of it?

Brilliant stuff.

On that note, why is some Connacht lad being picked ahead of a player I've never seen play at anything other than Schools level at scrum-half for the under 20s?

That's been raised before. It wouldn't be an option since the players are paid in sterling and their place of work is in the UK.

And that's the reason Tommy will be in Munster red next season.

I suppose exchange rates fluctuating might negate the benefit of it seeing as the vast majority of revenue and outgoings are through sterling.

Thanks for the prompt answer

The following was posted on MF.com:
Heard from MB insider that Dougie took all the backs into video analysis after Saints TP match - on his own, no coaches - and went through what went wrong for our opportunities spurned and their soft tries conceded by us. Same man says that his tactical and technical ability is hugely respected. He would have many advantages as attack coach - knowledge acquired from many top level coaches over a long career and an in depth knowledge of what we have here in Munster and the work needed to be done.
Apparently he and Mike Prendergast (currently the Cookies head coach) are also assisting Ian Costello with the A side.

Not a bad coaching ticket at all,Mike is quite good and Bohs have gone to shit since Costello left.

Nah, not subtle enough.

Reddan v Murray is more debateable although sadly Reddan's form gives Murray a big edge.

Alternatively Earls v Trimble should generate a few pages but again the fact most think Earls will be 13 or failing that Bowe means no wing debate.

Ryan v Tuohy, there you go.
Conor Murray was the best scrumhalf of the pool stages of the Heineken Cup according to Opta stats.

But Munster's back play is shit.

Dougie is probably the John Smit to McGahan's Peter De Villiers.

Conor Murray needs to learn that when he gets to a ruck he passes the ball, not dive into it like a backrower. I can understand why you Munster lads mightn't want your SH to pass the ball to your OH, but the rest of us do.

Yeah, because Munster need a scrum half who has a pass and nothing else to his game for a change.

What I mean to say is: because the backs coaching is so shit, Dougie is merely plugging a hole out of perceived necessity. That doesn't necessarily mean he'd be a suitable backs coach in the medium to long term.

Did dougie gather the backs to point out his poor defensive positioning and decision making for Ashton's try?

Or did he point to his try and go, "just do that bro, run through em"

Not surprising given what they collate. I don't think any set of statistics could give you an idea of how a SH is playing whatever about their use in other positions.

At the very least it would need to be an in depth analysis of pass speed, time at each ruck, accuracy of pass but even then there's no real way to measure the most important SH skill, decision making.

Not a critique aimed at Murray as such, I like him as a player and given Reddan's average form should start but he's a little way to go before being a top SH.

In fairness,Connacht U-20's beat all comers this year,if they can hang onto Nigel Carolan as the coach they'll keep progressing like this, trick is to get those guys to make the leap to senior rugby and keep them in Connacht.

The fact he's come out on top of their stats while playing behind a pack that had its fair share of messy ball is a great indication that he's going in the right direction, this time last year he had no Munster starts to his name,if he keeps on the same trajectory he'll be very hard to drop.

From the main PR site. Didn't know that there were worries of him needing an operation.

reland team manager Michael Kearney has confirmed that Luke Fitzgerald may be available for their second match in the Six Nations.

Fitzgerald was omitted from Declan Kidney's 32-man squad named ahead of Sunday's opener against Wales, as he recovers from a neck injury.

But Kearney revealed that the 24-year-old utility back could return to the side for the clash with France in Paris on February 11.

"Luke has a neck injury - an issue with a disk - and has been out longer than initially anticipated," he said.

"He's improving and we're hopeful that he'll be available for selection within the next week or two but there's no definitive timeline on his recovery. It's a case of monitoring it and seeing how it progresses.

"He's back doing light training with Leinster and our information is that he won't need an operation," added Kearney.
