Barnes suits us better against Scotland rather than Wales because Scotland's defence isn't as tight and our keep ball is likely to create more space. Conversely, Scotland don't really have a keep ball style, unlike Wales, so our challenge will be purely to make sure we don't give them initial momentum and our defence will hopefully force errors in the same way Wales always used to patiently wait for our errors when Barnes was reffing.

One issue for us might be Leavy who can sometimes take a while to realise the ref isn't seeing things the same way he is.

Barnes could also be a huge positive in solving our narrow defense.
If there’s no contest for possession at rucks, just fan the fûck out.

Stats, if Leavy doesn’t know how Barnes refs, he shouldn’t be playing.
That said, I hope he croc rolls Barclay all day.

Let's just hope it lashes down all tonight and tomorrow - the heavy ground will really nullify their running game.

We're partial to running the ball ourselves or do people still think we get from our own 22 to the opposition one in a series of pick and gos?

Obviously, but Scotland's main threat are their backline. If the conditions render them less effective, our pack should be able to grind out a win.

I'd much prefer that we back our own gameplan rather than being reliant on weather to nullify theirs.

[quote="Mullet 2"]Nervous about this Leinster game.

Good opener for the weekend.

Interesting to see Fardy up against Beirne.
Our backrow should be way too strong for them - SOB, Conan and Murphy, plus we have a better bench.
Byrne vs Vandell?

But if we let them at Noel Reid in the centre?

I know Huw Jones bombing down the field leaves a certain impression but we ran for more metres against Wales than Scotland did against England. Balls to the weather being bad, fudge that.

Anyone listen to Rugby on Off The Ball last night?

Some serious mental gymnastics going on from one the the Journos.
Basically calling St. Joe a control freak and then going on to use examples of teams coached by Joe of how he could change his ways. WTF?

And for those who don't see the slam as a bare minimum return there's no harm trying to wrap things up this weekend.

Wet track isn't going to help us there and wouldn't surprise me if England got the BP in Paris.

Be careful what you wish for. Our game is built around ball retention and a low error count, whereas the Scots live off errors and turnovers, so anything that increases the error count favours the Scots imo. The idea that bad weather helps the bigger side is a throwback to the days of heavy pitches that slowed down the game, but the modern pitches remains quick regardless of weather. I’d prefer a fine day tbh.

Funny how all this crops up after they didn't respect the guidelines for the press conference. The egos on some of the lads is unreal. Cummisky is another one with ideas way above his station.

Dont think so. Nearly sure i cant Dan.

edit.. i think that might have been on the ipad. I'll try though. Guess i assumed given they block the channel up here that they would block the player too

Dan, it is GeoLocked. Earls cannot watch RTE Player as he is based in the United Kingdom. Well, the mainland.

Pretty sure I drew a blank the last time I tried.

Just because the lads are taking the audiovisual soup doesn't mean ti works the other way round, particularly with sport if there is a rights contract.

Academy players Cillian Gallagher, Conan O’Donnell and Peter Claffey have all signed senior professional contracts with the Connacht for the 2018/19 season.

I met O’Donnell a few months ago and he’s almost as broad as he is tall. Seems to have lost the puppy fat and looks like a proper professional player now. I haven’t seen him featuring for Connacht for a while and was a bit worried he’d lost his way, so it’s great to hear he’s got upgraded to a full contract.

Gallagher has the potential to be a bit special if he can get an injury free run. He’s a year younger than James Ryan so has a bit of time to start showing what he can do.

If we were to judge him by the way the scrum has gone this year as well as how the props have got on, I wonder if Dundon would be fearful for his position?
