I'd hope Murphy gets a starting position back.
His performances for Ireland deserve it.
I'd honestly consider chucking him in at 8.

Absolute shiter we're losing him to Ulster.

It'll be interesting to see if they play the 3 second rows. I presume it'll be two backrowers on the bench if they do. Murphy and maybe Ruddock, if not fit then Deegan.

Any more news on SOB?

Campbell College are the 2018 Danske Bank Schools’ Cup champions after they won 19-13 against Royal School Armagh at Kingspan Stadium.

Watched it, seemed like everybody was trying to hard.

So McCarthy on the bench instead of JGP then.

Cian Healy the big gobshite! Don't think he connected with anyone but it was particularly stupid.

It wasn't a kick, he accelerated into a ruck and his knee came up in a power step as he made contact. Looking for problems if you think that that was an issue.

Sure that must be it. Probably picked up the technique from Pascal Papé!

Ah it was nothing more than the windup to a plant of a powerful leg drive.

You may well be right, I only saw it live, but the optics of it were not very good. Especially considering it was Healy. Was expecting some braying on here by the usual suspects tbh.

And what a fantastic pair of locks we already have.
They already make a superbly complimentary pairing.

People were only mentioning it because it's Healy and he has had discipline issues in the past.

*I think his discipline is way overblown as an issue, anyway. Yes, he's had a couple of bans, but they've been fairly spaced apart and weren't full-on thuggery. Mostly they were stupid over-eagerness. He's a confrontational player, which makes him more noticeable.

Just wondering if the GS. inspired Rory to that blistering round in Florida?
Has he a Twitter feed or has he said anything?

I didn't recognize who it was at the time! Just that it looked like something that could have gotten that player into quite a bit of trouble, then I was a couple of pints of Bass in at the time.

Reading some of his interviews it seemed much more of his own self confidence and belief in his putting game.

What a weekend! I got to re watch the other 4 games due to various outings being cancelled with the snow. Frankly, Irish rugby is in a ridiculously good spot at present and the future is looking extremely bright. The job done by Schmidt, Nucifora et al is worthy of a book. Outside of our top top players (Murray, Sexton, Furlong and maybe a couple more) the drop off from first to second choice is negligible. We must have the deepest pack in world rugby atm.

- Front row: I would have said Sat morning that Furlong was having a meh campaign by his ridiculous standards, but I cant think of a better performance by a prop in a Test. He absolutely dominated in open play, smashing Itoje on a couple of occasions and, of course, the Skilz! Porter's step up into a test tighthead is nearly as impressive.

- Locks: Henderson and Ryan are two of the top performers in the game. Freak athletes that bring it physically every week. I think Henderson might be the most unsung player of the campaign. He was the difference in Paris (excl. JS), and was ruining English mauls all game. Add in Beirne and we have a stupid embarrassment of riches.

- Back row: Dan Leavy is Sam Cane 2.0! Its interesting to note that POM has been the one to exit for the sub back row in each of the games. I wonder if Beirne/ SOB will most likely challenge his position in the next year. CJ had his most productive game vs England but his work rate is off the charts. I'd guess he is the fittest player in the pack, even if he is not the superman ball carrier of 12 months ago. I'd really like to see him left at home for the OZ tour.

On Hendo, it may have been partly due to injury but the decision to rest him against Scotland looked to have paid off and we are lucky to have someone like Toner who can step in without issue when one of the locks needs a breather.

I'm a little surprised he didn't rotate McGrath in at all but the latter did look jaded earlier in the season and maybe he felt he needed as little gametime as possible this season.

What's also worth mentioning is that Carbery actually played 30 minutes of the game and while Sexton certainly played his part at vital times, we were able to cope without him and in particular I thought Carbery's cameo when Sexton was initially off was very encouraging. When he came on again for Sexton we were under the cosh a bit more and his role ended up being mostly defensive. He does need more regular gametime at 10 though but I thought some of his passes were very good given the occasion and if we need to use him he'll bring his own positives in attack. I'd maintain that we can cope with one of Murray or Sexton out if needs be as whichever one is fit is well able to get the best out their more inexperienced partner.

You need more than 6 players to have a decent pack.
Nowadays you need at least double that.

That’s was good! Looks like Sexton’s Dad there. Apart from Henderson it looked like Best’s bald heard in there as well. Still nothing wrong with the Fields of Athenry (that’s for you Willie).

Priority now for Nucifora has to be to fix Ulster. Dont get me wrong the Leinster academy production is a thing of beauty but we shouldn't be so reliant on it. Its not so much that there were three Ulstermen in the XV and they all contributed massively but around the supporting cast there is zero backup coming from up here (im counting Farrell as Munster btw) which is unacceptable. Nucifora will pretty much pick the next coach (with Schmidts input and an Ulster veto apparently) but we need to make sure the same competitive edge is translated up here (even if the talent compared to Leinster and Munster is a little thinner).

Yes, things are going great but we are not operating on full capacity and bringing the Dunleavys and O'Tooles through with Moore and Murphy will be key to making sure we stay ahead of the game even after Joe has gone.
