There has to be changes in the pack although I wouldn’t start Tracy unless he was the only hooker available. I’d go with

McGrath
Cronin
Porter
Ryan
Fardy
Ruddock
Leavy
Conan

Healy
Tracy
Furlong
Toner
Murphy

I suppose it's better for him to develop as a coach.

Any chance we could get a French ref for this? Really hope it's not Nigel or the other Welsh chap. Possibly Mitrea?

given lancaster is entrenched as attacks coach, it looked inevitable he'd move on if he wanted to expand his responsibilities.

I'd heard Dempsey was leaving back in April but that he didn't want to leave.

WTF. That's a bolt from the blue. Sad to see him go? Did he perhaps feel his role was diminished with Lancaster? Could Nacewa replace him? Kind of the only man worthy really!

Are the people benching Toner and Furlong the same ones who wanted half our Test team not going to Australia? They can do 50-55 minutes, IMO.

Makes sense to bench one of the locks so that they can replace one of the others but actually Fardy might miss out completely.

Actually yeah I think that is his plan. I really hope it's not a case of them deciding not to replace him. Irish coaches have a poor record of having a bit of success and then hoping to absorb the loss of an outgoing coach which inevitably leads to stagnation. EOS and Kidinme both fell into that trap. And a similar situation was almost foisted upon Leo but he bravely fought against it with appointments of first Henry and subsequently Lancaster.

Gosh thats a big move for Dempsey, I know he has a young family. Not ideal for him if he doesnt really want to go to Bath. That said, he'll be well paid and its a lovely area.

Still.....

Henry was hardly an appointment. McQuilkin was always going to be replaced, he was too senior a coach. Dempsey's role was reduced as a result though.

While you can't fault our defence much, it has been looser since McQuilkin. Probably need someone to come in with that as their main strength.

Was actually just about to say we could do worse than re-hiring McQuilkin and allow Stu to focus on other areas.

No idea if his situation has changed. I think he came in to help out Cullen in time of need. Might not be as interested playing second fiddle to Lancaster, if he's even available.

He went back because his Dad was sick, right? If that situation has changed he might take the job. He's only ever been a defence coach. Never got a whiff of ambition off him beyond that, although I could be mistaken.

Wasn't aware which family member it was and no idea what's happened there.

You are correct, I believe, that he's only been a defence coach but with Cheika and Cullen, he was a prominent senior assistant. His profile would be lower if he was to return, imo.

If the money's right it might not make a difference. Irish rugby should be awash at the moment but Nucifora et al would be reluctant to have Leinster go after an overseas replacement for Nacewa. The least they can do is make sure the Leinster backroom is solid as a rock.

Don't disagree at all that we should be targeting McQuilkin if he's interested and available. Was just exploring why he might not be.

Are Munster providing a Guard of Honour this Saturday?

I'm very uneasy about it all. Our squad is deep but it's not like our second string would get out of the CC pool or anything

If Noel Reid plays then times are bleak. A double for Leinster would be nice but I think last weekend took too much of a toll
