Joe is just ridiculous. Scannell looked like prime Ledesma for 50 minute... This happens every game. Guys coming from nowhere.
I thought Scannell plodded to be honest. Very limited player. Herring was excellent again.

Think Scannell was tiring early on in the 2nd half.

When did he last play?
Joe brought him off at the right time (roughly). He had given away a pen and thrown and intercept in the lead up. He will be angry with himself but not dispirited because prior to that 5 minutes he was super. Needs a sustained run in Red and we will hopefully see him recover his previous form and consistency.
should have let him taking the attacking lineout throw, very odd time to change a hooker who is playing well.
that was the 'roughly' part of my post. I'd start him again next week

Herring, first throw aside, did well again. Great hit on Tongan Thor miles behind the gainline.
Is he better than Cronin? Probably not
Maybe not a better rugby player but Herring seems safer at the set piece and is a more rounded player than just a power carrier (so is Cronin but it's what he's mainly known for).

he's certainly level with him, with age being on his side.

Scannell really impressed me, weird how Joe can get these performances out of players with such indifferent form.

Henshaw is the only real downside.
Defo, but he's always excellent when we're dominant tho. But shit when its tight and we're under the pump.

I'll go with

Healy
Scannell
Furlong
Ryan
Toner
PoM
Murphy
Stander
Murray
Sexton
Stockdale
Aki
Ringrose
Earls
Kearney

McGrath, Cronin, Ryan, Hendo, Beirne, Cooney, Carbery, Larmour

Im assuming Conway and Leavy are f**ked. Who else do we have in the backrow?

Don’t think you can blame Herring for his first throw. Australia read it, got in front and picked it off. Both hookers were very good. Though Herring didn’t strike the ball well in the scrum.

That's a good squad.
isn't Conan out there as well?
I think Byrne will get onto the bench though.

What did we make of POC's commentary? Haven't seen anything mentioned.

Henshaw made his tackles this week but that was about it. Aki was consistently getting us across the gain line last week when needed. I'd be surprised if Aki didn't start next Saturday.

I'd start Hendy if he's fit, he's a level above Toner.

Toner did very well today, tell him empty himself for 45/50 then bring on Hendo to do the same.

Henshaw is the only real downside.
Scannell's had a number of games where he's got mega yips with the throw, and has been injured a lot, but when fit and on song with his throwing he has been properly excellent for Munster for the last couple of years.

Subject to the lineout, I think he's Best's clear backup.

If Leavy is fit I'd keep the pack the same, but Henderson will bench. Toner played very well, his weight in the contact was really visible today.

Stockdale will definitely come back if fit. If he's fit, I'd also start Conway again - my preference would be at 15 for Kearney, but could move Earls to the bench too.

Only other change is Henshaw or Aki, I'll trust Joe's decision there.

As I said in the match thread, if Genia can't play we should beat them comfortably, if he can it will be tight again.

The Tone Ranger is a real glue guy. Work off the restarts alone is huge.

Hendo on after 50. I'd be happy with Beirne coming on for the back-row, showed up well I thought.

Leavy is a big loss but no complaints, would be incredible if they had Genia back in 7 days.

I thought Toner went through an ocean of work. Stander is tired but plugged away till the end.
Ryan is just a freak. Its not normal to be that good and composed at his age. Unreal.

Not what I thought I'd be saying at the beginning of the season but if three centres are going to the RWC, Henshaw isn't one of them.

Think next week will come down to who is more wrecked. While Aus made twice as many tackles, a lot of them were as tough for us as it was for them and ultimately if both packs have a drunken end of the night scrap, their backs will win the match.

We'll definitely have to empty our bench earlier and maybe even put a starter or two on it (but not as many as last week).

Looks like they won’t, Phipps wasn’t bad today but he’s not Genia, who is their 3rd 9?

It’s the second best pack in the world you don’t need to mess with it:

Healy
Scannell
Furlong
Ryan
Toner
POM
Leavy
Stander

Healy and Leavy probably injured - McGrath and Nordie straight swaps. Could really use VDF back

I'm with you there Duff. But if i don't see Stander in red till October that's fine by me. The man is running on fumes. Would worry about a muscule injury when he's this tired.
