I think he is starting games because he brings slightly more mobility around the park than Ryan and so long as he can now lock out the scrum he should get picked. Ryan ia great tight forward, good in the maul and a destructive scrummager, I'd hate to be a tired LH against him coming on fresh.
He's also cut out the stupid penalties that he was so prone to giving away. I thought his try saving action of putting himself between the post and ball at the weekend was great (particularly as he was technically offside at the time).

Just saw his tackle stats for the weekend where he was second highest at 17 behind Stander (of course) at 21. He can now scrummage adequately and his meltdowns are way less frequent. I think Ryan’s time is managed carefully because of his illness, but I guarantee you he’ll start against Exeter, who have a far stronger scrum than Glaws.

Coetzee is the boss over his agent. If he really wants to stay an arrangement can be made.

He has been outstanding this past month. Really getting back to his best. Literally the complete package. IMO, best 8 in the country.

Coetzee's just so good, really don't know what we're going to do if we have to replace him.

I don't think you could with out a marquee signing post RWC, he's world class.

TBF Stander is great like but I'd be hard pressed to take him over a full fit and firing Coetzee. Guys like Coetzee are why Stander didn't get a shot in SA.

Based on the few matches he's managed to string together? Pull the other one.....

Yeah, because, like Coetzee wasn't going to be Natal Sharks captain before he left SA, wasn't a capped Springbok when he was 20/21 and won a heap of MOTM awards at Super rugby. He was (I think) 17 caps by the time he was 23, amongst some quality backrowers.

There is a reason why Marcell came on a huge wage. He is a classy player, always has been.

CJ played in a different province and position to Coetzee. CJ went to the Blue Bulls Currie Cup bench behind Arno Botha after he signed for Munster.

Coetzee is a better, more rounded player. One made it as a Springbok, the other did not.

Where's the proof? If that's your opinion, then fine (you're wrong btw).

Stander was Ireland's player of the 6N last year I believe. That's a pretty high accolade. Because he didn't make it as a Springbok doesn't make Coetzee better - lots of Saffer fans were on here bemoaning seeing him playing in an Irish jersey when they saw how good his was.

He's played 16 games this season and before he signed for Ulster he had what, just shy of 30 caps for SA as a 24 year old?

Since when did Coetzee play as an out and out 8 in SA? CJ despite his SA under age career was coached by a dinosaur in senior Rugby who tried to turn him in to a hooker. Now the Boks have a light weight Whiteley good leader but would get sorted due to his lack of physicality and injury record. Duane Vermeulen is busted.

Was just talking generally really, and it is just my opinion.

(Which is skewed a bit by my anti Stander bias, but I do think Coetzee has more strings to his bow, and is just that bit more of a monster)

Coetzee was world class before he arrived on these shores. I don't think it's the Ulster fans displaying ignorance here.

I have made no comment on Coetzee as I am a big fan of his. The Ulster lads however are gone way OTT trying to compare him to CJ given their respective careers over the past few years.

I dont think anyone is doubting his quality. Everyone recognised how good a signing he would be - but has has played I think 20 games in 3 years for Ulster.

Calling him the best 8 in Ireland is a bit much for me.

Stander once again topped Munsters tackle and carry stats at the weekend, Tbh I’m not sure any more that 30 Springbok caps tops 29 Irish ones.

Leinster healthy 9's:

Jamison Gibson Park(26)
Hugh O'Sullivan(20) - 6 senior caps(89 minutes)
Paddy Patterson(20) - 1 senior cap(12 minutes)
