So clearly the Saracens game was disappointing but Leinster have made all 4 finals in the last 2 seasons and won 3 of them. I'll take that. Don't think it'll be repeated next season with the RWC and the constant erosion of the squad. Speaking of which was Jack McGrath anywhere to be seen yesterday?

Sexton pulled his head out of his arse yet?

Ryan and Ruddock. Probably didn't have standout moments but their workrate was off the charts.

They are down for 28 and 27 tackles. Great performance from both. I remember one point Ryan made two tackles in two phases and was up standing guard the next phase again. It is hard to understand that kind of work rate. Ruddock was really good as well. He's a much smarter player than he was a few seasons ago.

He was up celebrating at the end

Why should he be cited? I expect you to quote relevant laws to back up your supposition.

Eh, because maybe the cutting commissioner might think that Kearney should have been shown red?

It's ok to sometimes admit that we got a favourable call.

It wasn't a red. You are the first up against the wall come the revolution. Your time in the north has Stockholmed you bad

They must be genuinely unhappy with Jack though. Stalwart for Leinster for years, first choice for years, Lions capped. Lifty trophy? No. Mentioned? No.

Cant imagine Leinster are happy with a player approaching another side for a deal when he still had a year on his contract.

I'm sure they're not but there must be something else going on for him to do so.

Well yeah, there must be some reason for him pushing for a move anyway other than just not wanting to play second fiddle to Healy.

Congrats Leinster types. Only caught the game in patches but it looked like the pack did a number on Glasgow which is great to see. Also delighted their fans had fudge all to celebrate i'll not lie but its good for Irish rugby if the leinster guys are getting some form back.

Mid contract?

He's not getting younger, he's not playing big matches, he's falling behind.
I don't begrudge him. (I realise I'm just a fan and that's meaningless, but w/e).

I'm not down on him at all.
I get why the money men/coaches may be but meh.
Coaches still have Healy in the form of his life and promising young back ups.
McGratch cant waste time really.

Mid contract?

Nucifora has given the precedent with Carbery. If you want to play for Ireland, be first choice at a province even if it means breaking your existing contract.

The carberry move was pushed for by Joe and the IRFU. McGrath's move wasn't, he pushed it through himself.

And ?

Nothing I said contradicts that.

After the Carbery move, every player, and more importantly their agent, knows the IRFU will back breaking a contract to have him playing first team rugby at another province.

Poor SOB.

Tbf, we all thought it would happen sooner.

So no WC? Leaves us very bare at 7. Murphy frontrunner to cover, I guess.

They better look after Derek now! Could TOD be within an outside chance of making the squad?

Alba in the Scottish thread said, inter alia, the following, and rather than befoul their thread of reference I thought I'd bring it here.

Quote:
Leinster obviously have one of the top academies in the world, but they also have a huge number of top class pros at the end of their careers; Cronin, Healy, Fardy, Toner, SOB, Sexton, Kearney. That’s the spine of their team and some top top players. Can their academy step up and replace that kind of quality all at once? I think they might have a few blip years post-WC just as Glasgow peak.

From a Leinster viewpoint.

The starter for 3 is easy. Larmour is Kearneys long term replacement and, imo, won't weaken the side.

Next, whilst SOB at his best was a magnificent player, I think we have the BR stocks, especially if Leavy returns, not to be weakened by SOBs absence.

Similarly with our SR. Toner only turns 33 next month and Leinster should have him for a couple of more seasons. I think that our young SRs, Baird and Dunne, look as if they have what it takes, and if neccessary we can replace Fardy with a similar type NIQ if required.

I think Cian Healy is even better in his second coming than in his first, and at 31 is only enetering his prime as a prop. His replacement will probably come from either Dooley or Porter ? Ed Byrne is a good back up but that's it imo.

At hooker we have, and have had, a mixed lot in recent years, none the complete package, but each good enough. I suspect whoever replaces Cronin will have the same said about him.

And finally to Sexton, who, whilst not reaching the heights of last season is far from 'past it' imo. Who will replace him ? Will the IRFU let us have Carbery back, or will Harry Byrne overtake his brother?

It is likely that the replacements at 2, and especially 10 will decide whether or not we stay at the tippy top of European rugby, or bubble about just underneath reaching QFs and SFs.

Any thoughts ?

Can we not give that young Leinster 7 a bit of the Clockwork Orange treatment in the summer to get him ready for some ultra violence Japan?
He looks the business any time I’ve seen him.

POM, Stander, VDF, Conan, Murphy for the WC.

Think Beirne might go now and cover backrow.

McGrath was centrally contracted so would have been little to do with Leinster.
