Is Tadhg Beirne an international class lock?

I hadn't really considered him being in the mix until now. He's up to the job right?

He's been a mixed bag at international level. He did really well coming off the bench for the third test in Australia. Was pretty poor for the Grand Slam game in Wales, his only high profile start that I can remember.

NY Times grapples with rugby, and pretty well too: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/17/spor ... tion=Rugby

And one for the short arses:

Irishers in the ROI, if you have a Sky box you’ll probably be aware that certain UK channels are not provided in the list of Sky channels such as the ITV channels (so one can’t watch such channels). Some legal reason for this. Anyway as a workaround you can manually add these channels to the Sky box such as the 4 ITV channels by following the instructions provided in this boards.ie link I embedded below. Check the response from Sky Ireland in the link.
These added channels won’t appear in your official TV Chanel list but the channels can still be viewed. Awkward way to access them but at least ITV 1 & 4 will broadcast plenty of WC games which RTE won’t be showing. At least 3 games on ITV1 tomorrow morning, while none on RTE. Of course Eir Sports will broadcast all the games if you happen to have that sports package.

Missed from about 20-70 minutes. Entertaining for the neutral? Framatic enough at the end.

So Argentina are most likely going out based on that - both teams are gonna lose to England.

Our world cup hopes just got a serious boost!

AB’s are being demolished up front here

Dare I say we’d probably have a better shot against them in the quarter ?!

SA will huff and puff and blow you away, but if we can stand up to them and frustrate them then there's a chance. Obviously we won't score tries like NZ, though.

NZ score tries that we wouldn't even think to attempt though.

Absolutely. Just conceeding the point that while there's a template to beating SA (stand up to them and frustrate them), it's easier if you can also score outrageous tries from nowhere.

Imagine him in green (of Connacht)? He'd take the piss.

If he didn't raise his paws he'd have scored 80 trys for Connacht in 5 games.

Is it Toland? Awful.

We can beat the Boks. Don’t kick it to Kolbe.

AB’s using the welsh tactic of accidentally on purpose falling on the wrong side of the breakdowm

If we can live with the first half hour onslaught from the Boks, we can beat them. Living with that first half hour is a mammoth challenge though.

They're just a juiced up 90s Ireland.

Nothing too scary about SA.

NZ obviously looking more dangerous but still even they don't look invincible like in previous world cups.

It seemed like both teams were wrecked for most of the second half though

Don’t fancy facing either of those teams in the QF but SA looked extremely tired in the last 20 mins. NZ never tired so I think I’d rather us face SA.

I don't know about that. They had NZ looking very rattled there for 25 minutes at the start. Most teams would have been dead and buried by that stage but the All Blacks were impressive in holding in there and then capitalising in that 5 minute spell where they won the game.

Rassie is a class act as always.

The Boks plan against New Zealand is exactly why Joe changed things up, sort of before the six nations but definitely since the warm ups. Even if Rassie had Murray on form and landing box kicks perfectly it wouldn't have made the difference. At most it'd be a coin toss.

Very interested to see how our fitness holds up against the Scots. Every game so far has has teams blowing out their arses for long periods.

The Saffers are a weird team. They probably have the best pack in the competition but in true Rassie style, just kick the leather off the ball. Really reminds me of the Munster v Saracens semi final...Munster were shockingly negative...kicked away everything.

It might work (would still be shite) if you have Murray and Kearney but having Faf kicking like a spacker and Willie pea heart Le Roux chasing makes it a pretty low percentage game for me.

I still think we can beat the saffers in the 1/4. Assuming we get to play them.

Neither looked that great. NZ are worse in every position from their 2015 team except Barrett at 15, and the quality of play from both teams was quite poor today. Quite basic passes were going to ground or nowhere.

I think we can play an accurate enough game plan that will give NZ nothing to play off, and I don't think the Boks attack simply is good enough if we can resist their power. Fancy England to win the whole damn thing now after seeing today's play.

Kaino was a magnificent rugby player but Savea would give him a run for his money.

What did you thiink of Gardner telling the Aussie outhalf not to drop out directly into touch after time was up?
Surely that counts as coaching by the ref.
Had the ball gone directly in, Arg would have had a scrum directly in front of posts..

I'd argue Cane is Kaino's replacement, not Savea. Cane is good but not in the same league as Kaino.
