I know. Probably will do in the build-up a couple of weeks before. Probably best this way, more surprises.

On this, apparently Timothee Chalamet is going to be playing Paul Atreidies.
New film just looks better and better crew wise.
Even though it's objectively not his fault, I can't not think someone called Timothee is a massive fuckwit.

I've never even seen a film with him in it, so it's nothing against him. Just his fuckwitted name.
He looks like his head and neck belong to different bodies.

Also apparently he's playing Henry V in a Netflix film - a fucking frenchman playing Henry V! Brexit can't come soon enough.
Ah he was kind of French anyway. His dad was the first king to have English as their primary language because he wasn't brought up as the crown prince.

Nuff said, he's a frog.

Impressively wrong. Edward III is the first monarch to start issuing things in English and Richard II makes it the language of court. Henry V almost exclusively uses English and is the first monarch to play up the notion of an English National identity. If you called him French he'd most likely have piously cut you in half.

If we are only talking about post 1066. Harold Godwinson was the last English king ;)

I believe that Alfred's Law Code was written in Anglo-Saxon rather than Latin too.

In post-Brexit Britain, she'll pass muster.

Eleanor of Aquitaine on the other hand. If it wasn't for her large tracts of land, she'd be renewing her visa every six months.

Enjoy the read. Me, I am back in my fortress of solitude, and back in Westeros. It won’t be tomorrow, and it won’t be next week, but you will get the end of A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE. Meanwhile, you have the final season of GAME OF THRONES coming, and the new show that is not yet officially called THE LONG NIGHT being cast, and a couple more shows still being scripted… and a few other cool things in the works as well.

Winter is not the only thing that is coming.”
My read on this is that as a writer it would be much less enjoyable to finish the book series than to write encyclopedias about the Valerian banking system. Finishing the book series at this point is a massive pain in the arse, there is loads of logistics to consider and foreshadowing to come good on. It's nearly like an exercise in project management instead of a creative work. And no matter what, it is going to be ripped to shite by reviewers.

Plus, most of the big plot points have either been guessed online or flat out shown in the show.

If you are GRRM.....why bother?

Some reader reviews :D
Disappointed. Reminds me of my 1960’s History textbook, but without the flair or wit. Cannot believe GRRM contemplated producing this before finishing TWOW. Is this just about money?
You think it's George R.R. Martin it'll be fine - it's not fine George.

I mean I get the premise it's an historical account for those that want all the little bits of Westeros detail they could ever wish for but it's delivered in such a turgid and bland way.

I'd drop it off at the charity shop but I fear it'd be considered a hate crime.
Where is the dialogue? The drama? The characters. It’s like reading battle geek maybe a school history book. £11 i’ve Been conned I want my money back. The blurb talks about a thrilling account, it’s a lie,
This book seems to be about how many different ways you can mangle the human body. Unfortunately, there is no one you care enough about to be in any way involved. Even the dragons are boring.(How can a dragon be boring?) I was so disappointed. As a keen fan of the Ice and Fire books, I was so looking forward to this. Not worth putting off the writing of the last books . It isn’t even tosh. Just infinitely boring.

think I might have to be doing a bit of a binge watch before the new season is out. I wasn't so sure how it'd fare on second viewing, but there's probably a lot you'll get out of it watching multiple episodes rather than just one a week.

The first 3 seasons is so fast paced that on first viewing you don't really know half the characters and storyline Watching multiple episodes makes it easier to put together the stories.
Characters I appreciate better on rewatching
- Theon
- Sansa
- Jamie

I watched the first three seasons together when my missus went away with kids. I was meant to be moving our stuff into the new house. Didn't expect much and was predictably blown away. It lends itself to binging

My missus was asked to write a score for a film and part of the brief was that it should feel like the theme music for GoT.

Neither or us had seen it so we got the first three seasons out of the video shop and watched them over consecutive weekends.
