That's the last super hero movie for me for a while though.
I'm actually interested in seeing Deadpool 2 to be honest.

aye, its also the easiest Genre to make, horror i.e so every tom, dick and harry with a camera can make a horror movie for less than $200 but that doesn't mean people call the whole genre shit because they saw some low budget shit ..i don't watch low budget horror movies, most turn out to be slasher films which i honestly despise..we prefer poltergeist, paranormal activity and exorcist type films, not SAW, Hotel or the texas chainsaw type shitty movies..they should really create a new category for those shitty films..... the last low budget "horror" movie i saw was A MONSTER PROJECT and it was 10 times greater than all the slasher films combined.. and yet it won't still make my top10 horror movies list ..

Don't you dare knock Cinema 6 Suva! :x  Fond memories...

If you thought the surrounding area was scary, imagine walking back through there to the City Private hotel on Robertson Road in the early hours of the morning after Flagg got me very, very drunk... In hindsight not the cleverest idea but no hassle, no bother and nothing but friendly people. Man I miss Fiji...

What's the soundtrack like? Josh Homme and Troy van Leeuwen did it. Not sure how they got attached to the project, but QOTSA did have a song years back called "In the Fade" which doesn't feature in the film.

I thought I recognised QOTSA playing in the background. Other than 1 song in a grocery store I can't say the soundtrack stood out much.

didn't think it looked too bad to me - is it canon then, or a straight remake, as the premise seems to be a follow on not a remake ?

So I watched Legend.
A dreadfully uneven movie, particularly towards the last third. Hardy's good, but not doing anything outside of his comfort zone with either role.

The film has nothing incisive to say about gangster lifestyle, and is really very paint by numbers once you get over the twin gimmick. Though, again, the final third is hamfisted and crass.

Then again, it's always fun watching Tom Hardy be shouty and it's not that boring of a film.

As with ex machina, I thought it was too derivative.
Most sci Fi retrods the same themes, but the two mentioned movies don't do anything that remarkable with them.

That trailer looks so Marvel-y and sanitised though.

Would you stop. Ex machina is excellent. Great performances. One of the best I've seen in years. Love that stone cold ending.

Annihilation could have done with a bit more ambiguity in the ending.

Spoiler: show
I'm being reductive, but the ending of Ex Machina was a play on open the pod bay doors HAL, it was also pretty apparent it was going to happen. A good sci-fi, but no 10/10

No, I'll have to check it out.
I go into Sci-Fi movies expecting them to riff on familiar themes, but Ex Machina and Annihilation didn't do enough with the stories they told for me to be blown away.

Watched the trailers, doesn't look like it will be.
There's a "Save the Daughter" plot there that just seems poor enough.

Also, no Deakins or Villeneuve is a big deal.
Spoiler: show
That tunnel scene and its entire night vision run up was so intense.
Almost otherworldly the way it was shot.
The ending was brutal.

I'm going to go all Floppykid and KidA on this one - Sicario is hugely overrated.

Good film, but not the masterpiece it's claimed to be.

The only great Villeneuve film is Incendies...

Arrival, Sicario and Enemy were decent.
Prisoners was claptrap and Blade Runner was beautiful but dull.

Well I thought it was the dogs bollocks.
Fantastic performances, relentless plot, pacing and directing. The set pieces are something else.

Just a thriller without an ounce of fat on it.

Incendies is clearly his best but the ones you mention are all up there. Prisoners = claptrap???? You have high standards. If anybody hasn't seen 'Polytechnique' I'd urge them to. Next to 'Elephant' it's one of the most realistic, terrifying portrayals of school shootings I've seen.
