Didn't see a thread for this so far. Quali starts soon.

Must win for Hammy, or at least ahead of Nico. More bad luck for Vettel:

http://www.planetf1.com/driver/18227/9479336/Vettel-will-have-to-use-sixth-engine

As Renault investigate Sebastian Vettel's latest engine failure, Remi Taffin revealed the Red Bull racer will soon be hit with an engine change penalty. Vettel's engine woes continued in Singapore on Friday when the reigning World Champion stopped in FP1 due to oil pressure loss.

Everyone on PR will be so sad.

Thanks - saved me the effort

Other big news - driver coaching over the radio is now banned. Full ban on radio comms starts next season. Should be interesting....

I do like the way they make up the rules as they go along in F1.

Arguably this is just an extension/clarification of an existing rule "Drivers must drive the car alone and unaided". Essentially they are defining what qualifies as "aid" a bit better

I don't think they are banning all comms, safety , speeds of other drivers etc are allowed, it's coaching that's banned, i

Not entirely. Teams can still give orders, general information etc, but they can't provide information on fuel usage, changing when to brake, details of competitors sector times etc.

Going to be very interesting for drivers that habitually under-fuel their cars and consume more, such as Rosberg

Increasingly more and more stuff will be banned. From Japan, tyre pressures, brake temps etc.

Indeed. Hammo just ignores team instructions.

Big fan of Raikkonen and hope he keeps it up through Quali. Been unlucky so far with all the car trouble he has had.

Looks like the Mercs have got a fight on their hands!

By car trouble I assume one with a Ferrari engine in it.

Rosberg finally sets a quick time (and it is properly quick) but has to sacrifice an extra set of tyres to do it. Lewis and the two Ferraris well set for the race

Why would Rosberg do this? Just to head up Q2?

He was 5th or 6th, and timewise not far off 11th. He couldn't really take the risk of not making Q3. Hamilton and the Ferraris figured they were quick enough, and enough places ahead, to stay in

"I cannot believe it, bloody engine, bloody engine," says Lotus Romain Grosjean on team radio to which his race engineer says: "Understand Romain, I'm very sorry it's the same issue as we had in P3. Grosjean responds: "I don't care, I don't care, it's too much."

Is he about to quit?

Of course not.

Great finish! Hamilton locks up and still makes pole!

By the way, a little sidetrack, but why is Maldonado still a F1 driver?

He has sponsorship (a lot of it) from the Venezualen government.

You would think though that his super-license was in danger

He brings in 31 million pounds in sponsorship from the Venezuelan goverment.

No Formula 1 driver comes anywhere near close.

How does he help the Venezuelans?

"Come to Venezuela, at least you know Maldonado won't be driving on our roads"?

Strictly speaking it's the Oil company that sponsor him, but that's state owned. I guess it started as a vanity project by Chavez
