Wanted it badly but leading the championship with Ferrari in falling over themselves it would hardly be the end of the world if he was behind Bottas.

We badly need a Hamilton bottas rivalry to have anything to watch this year..... Badly needed is the exact opposite of what I was thinking

Getting the pole ahead of Bottas was a big deal - but he's also not been in contention at Monaco for a long time

I don't think anyone would be saying Bottas has taken a massive step towards his first championship had he managed to get pole today

I really feel bad for Leclerc...
He should be working on an exit strategy.

Bottaa had beaten Hamilton to pole for the last 3 races. Lewis really needed to hit back, especially at Monaco

I know he had and he had the beating of Hamilton yesterday as well. I still don't think it's that big a deal at this stage of the season. Hamilton would still be the favourite to win the title. I think people like to make to big a deal of the here and now.

Although Bottas has had an inspiring start to the season, Hamilton is one of those guys who will always find something extra when he needs to and I don't think Bottas has that, unfortunately.

Hammys only problem today will be a problem with his car, or being taken out by a back marker. Otherwise he will lead the parade from go to whoa.

I wouldn't rule out Max in the wet. Would put money on Leclerc catching Rosberg in second place though

Just a bad start to his Ferrari career. No need to fuck it up like Alonso.

Le Clerc will be lucky to make the top 10.

It mixes things up, especially if it falls during the race. Unpredictability is good

He's hardly put a foot wrong. There was the mistake in Baku qualifying, but not much else. What they did to him yesterday takes stupidity to a new level. You could see on his face yesterday that he couldn't believe what just happened.

I agree. There's too much emphasis on who wins the race (in terms of what defines "entertainment"). Most of the time there is a lot of good racing going on in the mid field.

True but he could be at Ferrari for many years and win many titles. It would be foolish thinking of leaving because the team has been poor to start off with.

Well, this is not a new thing for them though is it. It's just that this year they are extra shite. And I'm not talking about the car.

His qualifying performances are mistake ridden but quick.

His race performances are very meh bar Bahrain. He’s been let down by his engineers sure, but he’s hardly an improvement on Vettel at the moment. He’s making more mistakes than he did in Sauber. Largely because Ferrari are going for broke in desperation and nothing is coming off and are being made to look like fools.

Indy 500 is 5pm English time today.

That’s an unsafe release for Verstappen. Hit the side of the Mercedes in the pit lane.

They had to go for it but Max may pay as a result.

Leclerc having a mare again.

And that’s Leclerc done. Pack it up, go home and watch the rest of the race on the telly.

Giovanazzi gets a 10 second penalty. That seems consistent.

Unsafe release from red bull in the pits with Max hitting Bottas.
