Surely he was never even on, in addition to leaving early? Any idea of what's happened here? Would-be receiver okay? Tackler banned?

At least he wasn't taking a high pass. Reckon he might've been blindsided by the hit though.

Hard to see the offside line. The ball pops out of the ruck early, so while the tackler might be early, it’s a close call. The loopy pass from the 9 does him no favours. Nothing wrong with the tackle itself, just a low, hard, textbook hit. No reason to ban the tackler for just being a smidge offside.

Leaving what early? the defensive line? The ball is out of the ruck long before its passed in this clip and it looks to me he times the run perfectly. Hard to tell from the angle whether he starts from an onside position but it looks OK.

Edit - Already covered by DOB.

He never even gets onside, let alone start from there!

My first year of senior league, we were playing against a guy who was a former NZ touch football rep. He was playing standoff, but was a proper hard looking plum - covered in prison tatts (including on his face) and looked like the type that would be inclined to tuck a knife into their sock instead of a mouth-guard. Being the young bloke on the team (and all of 63kgs), the coach gave me the assignment of charging in from an angle like that at full-tilt, but rather than trying to blind-side him, I had to scream bloody-murder the whole way. Didn't explain why, but I kind of guessed it was because he'd probably raise his elbow, drop me and get sent off. Dummy half passed him the ball in their first set, I followed orders and charged in screaming abuse. He didn't even take a step - he heard me coming, dropped the ball to his foot and hoofed a kick straight up in the air - didn't even try to direct it - it ended up going backwards. On the first tackle. Ten metres out from their own try line.

Turns out this guy, despite his ball-playing talent, was renowned as being the biggest drop-nuts in the game and was known to literally throw the ball away rather than getting tackled by a forward. When he saw how small and young I was, and how many people were laughing at him, he did give me a good shove to save face.

Yep. The tit retreats back to about 4-5 yards OFFSIDE before he starts his charge from the blindside. I'd have stuck him with a few (or started it and hoped teammates would join in, depending on his size).

Those Oundel v Thurrock games were always a bit tasty.

Wow. That's beautiful. Almost looks like a hokey Star Trek special effect.

Its hard to tell. The camera angle isn't helpful in that regard and he retreats out of shot for a moment. Either way its marginal, not obvious.
