Yeah, thought it was too good to be true - the turbines in the background were barely spinning at all so that must have been a very selective hurricane...

Catch of the year:

The clip is believable and is a known wind turbine failure mode. Wind turbines operate at a fixed synchronous speed within their operating wind velocity window. Typically they will start turning/generating at around 10 mph and turn out of the wind and stop turning/generating at around 50 mph. The turbine in the clip was likely not synchronized with the grid and had a system failure that prevented the yaw controller from turning the turbine out of the wind.
Or the governor which stops it from spinning too fast (all gennnies have them) failed .

The grid is of infinite size compared to the wind turbine generator, therefore if it's synchronized, the grid frequency dictates the speed of the generator. If it's not synchronized, the wind turbine will use a combination of - blade pitch control, electrical brake, mechanical brake and yaw control to manage to rotational speed. Governors were typically used on prime movers (recips, turbines, etc.), however they have now been replaced by microprocessor based systems that control a wind range of variables, not just speed.

She didn't do what many, lower level, gymnasts do and tried to extend their arms to stop the fall. Have seen many dislocated shoulders/elbows because of that.

Also the bottom (20cm) mat is quite hard foam - the top (10cm) "splat mat" is soft foam and that helps a lot. Back in the 1990s there was only ever a 10cm hard mat, and there were more serious injuries (albeit not too many)

So is that a leopard with a young crocodile?

Will the leopard have the bite strength to actually kill the croc there? Presumably it's trying to suffocate it the way lions do, but it doesn't look like it would be very effective.

It's a jaguar with a caiman.

The jaguar uses its bite strength to literally crush the skull, rather than throttle the prey like a lion does.

There's something primordial about the way crocs look and move that strikes some remnant of the primitive human brain. That "ho-ly fuck I'm dead" feeling.

Last Christmas (I gave this earworm) my parents wanted to give my kids presents so they adopted endangered animals for them. Whether this does any good or not is a different matter, but my son chose a dolphin because he liked the cuddly toy you got. My daughter saw footage of a jaguar killing a caiman and immediately chose the big cat...

It's Reno 911, a damn funny cop show pisstake. It's also reliably the most realistic portrayal of American cops ever, according to American cops.
