There doesn't appear to be a "net".

Just a fence that is raised up to allow the little fishies to swim in.
Then when the plug is pulled, the fence settled down to seal them in.

A different type of fish weir ... fun fact, they were used extensively in Ontario probably for 1000s of years before Europeans arrived, with the Mohawk calling them tkaronto, which it's believed how the city of Toronto got its name.

Where I grew up, there are some in the water with stakes that were dated to nearly 5000 years old.
