That a Spitfire next to a V1? I'd always heard that a spitfire could get alongside and flip a V1 but half suspected it was a myth.

The version I've heard was a Spitfire pilot who'd expended all his ammunition, rather frustrated that the V1 was still on target pulled up alongside and flipped it, which mucked up the gyros so well it was adopted as the official method of dealing with them.

Here's an actual pic of it being done:

According to wikipedia (with citation), 16 Doodlebugs were destroyed by wingtip tipping.

Richie McCaws grandfather destroyed 21, no word on if he came in from the wrong side when he did it.

Quote:
McCaw's grandfather, J.H. "Jim" McCaw, flew 300 sorties from RAF bases in World War II, mostly from Tangmere in West Sussex. The Oamaru-born aviator, nicknamed Black Mac, liked to push the limits. In 1944, McCaw snr is alleged to have saved countless lives by shooting down 21 German V1 rockets, and was even known to use the wingtips of the Hawker Tempest Mk5 planes he flew to knock missiles off course. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his attacks on German-controlled railways and missions over sea that saw 73 ships destroyed.

Tempest rather than Typhoon was the aircraft of choice due to its superior speed.

In my experience, it's difficult to tell. I've known both the short-haired mannish type to be straight and the drop dead gorgeous feminine type to have never had any interest in men.

Anyway, a pic ...

There is something profoundly creepy about the North Korean cheerleaders.

On a separate note, what is it about Korean tourists, especially women, who seem to either do the 'V' fingers or adopt the most absurd head tilt 'catalogue poses' for photos.

A good reason for a Bond film to be set in Canada ... some sort of chase down the Rideau River / Canal while having to deal with this monstrosity!
