Tonight's pitch for the T20 International against the poms.

Waxing gone wrong?

Looks like a green mamba on a length though, flat pitch for the bouncers

That a Spitfire next to a V1? I'd always heard that a spitfire could get alongside and flip a V1 but half suspected it was a myth.

The version I've heard was a Spitfire pilot who'd expended all his ammunition, rather frustrated that the V1 was still on target pulled up alongside and flipped it, which mucked up the gyros so well it was adopted as the official method of dealing with them.

Here's an actual pic of it being done:

My money is on it being a Typhoon.

Shape of wing = spitfire

That was my thinking, I know the Spitfire was notable for its rounded wings.

Might be a Tempest. Or Not. Apparently it wasn't necessary to touch it, the disturbed airflow did the work. edit...No, I think you're right, the elevators on the tailplane match...

As far as I'm aware it's real.

I’d be very surprised if it wasn’t a Spit from wing and tailplane shape.

I didn't think it real. After all, imagine the circumstances necessary for it to be taken.

Found it on imgrum - it’s a bit of digital art by a guy called Mark Donoghue, posting as Hangar 7 Aviation Art (@HANGAR7ART).

Yeah - but not sure if that's not just a slight flat angle look at at typhoon wing.

Main thought was the smaller flaps and the invasion stripes. Don't see many original photos (as apposed to airshow) of spitfires with invasion stripes - and when you do the stripes tend to go out further along the wings. Equally, as far as I'm aware Typhoons did more of that sort of stuff because they had stronger wings.

But could be all bollocks.

The artist intended it to be a spitfire. At any rate, he added a #spitfire tag on instagram.

Yup. Elevator trim tab (with actuator prominent on its upper surface) marks it a Spitfire, IMO.

Spoiler: show

It's a time lapse, so presumably the dot shows its positions over a period of time.

Still confused. How can a regular digital camera (googled the story) take a photo of an atom....illuminated or not?? Brain hurts.

Atom is getting hit with a laser, which temporarily bumps an electron up a valency band on the atom; but this is very unstable, so the electron almost immediately drops back down again to the lower band, & in the process releases some energy in the form of a photon (light). Do this several million times, & do a long exposure of the space the atom is suspended in, & you get a million photons being emitted off an atom, you can't see, so it looks like you can see the atom !

or so my long forgotten physics says ;)
