No idea what you were talking about so googled
The ‘Nippon clip-ons’
Soon after the Auckland Harbour Bridge was opened it became clear that the bridge was too narrow for the traffic. So less than 10 years later two additional traffic lanes were clipped onto both sides of the bridge. Here, in April 1968, the clip-ons have been added to the North Shore side, and the first is being added to the city side of the bridge. The additions were built by a Japanese firm, Ishikawajima–Harima Heavy Industries – hence the nickname.

The other iconic NZ bridges, although on a less grand scale, are the good old "one laner" bridges:

That's so New Zealand. Never build anything extra for the future.

Australia too - build hundreds of kilometres of 2-lane Toll roads. 15 years later, close to one lane each way and add 3rd, all whilst you pay full toll charge at 40Kph....

Then the Roads Minister leaves and joins the Toll company...

I'm not sure if you're asking about my pic or about Puku's invisible one. If mine it's the Ngahere bridge over the Grey River on the Blackball Branch which was damaged by flooding in the '60s. And, according to Wikipedia, Four spans of the old railway bridge over in the Grey River stood until 2002 when they were dismantled. The bridge itself was kept in operation until 1968 as a road only bridge, and then several more years for pedestrians, until further flooding damage made it impractical to repair. Though I'd swear I remember Dad driving us over it in '69. My photo, Oct 1990.

I was asking about Puku's as assumed your bridge was gone. I'm sure though in 2007 I went over more than one one-way road/rail bridge on that coast...

The only one I can think of is the one over the Taramakau at Hokitika, which was still operating last I heard. Suspect all the rest are gone.

May well have just been a couple. Are there some one way bridges, without a railway track? They may be distorting my memory.

I remember going home about 25 years ago; my parents house was on SH1 north of Christchurch. I was surprised to find (because I hadn't noticed it when I lived there) that once you drove about 5-7km inland, every bridge was a one-lane bridge.
Maybe they've replaced them all but it would be a hell of a job, I bet there are lots left.

Nice. I’ve been here for a week with the kids over school holidays staying in what was my grandad’s bach (growing up in Christchurch we were here every chance we got).

Its one of my favourite places and I try to get back every year or two. If you haven’t been back for a while it has changed a lot. Every time I come one of the older places has gone and a new build has gone up.

I’ve gone as far as Otira recently and can advise I encountered some in the wild but didn’t cross to the West Coast proper. I will need to leave it to other PR field reporters to provide real time updates from the Coast.

I mean ... I suppose it's exaggerated ... depending on how big is the mistake ... right?

Apart from that, how is it not true?

They ask you to provide your tax details and if you get it wrong, you get penalised. FFS, if you know already, just say what I have to pay. I think that's the point.

It's just a super weird transaction. "You owe us money ... you figure out how much, we're not saying ... if you get it wrong you're penalised". What?

Jail is not universally applied; quite rare. More importantly, the IRS does not know what taxes you owe before you file. They have no idea what deductions or credits you will take nor additions to your income.

Still a funny though.
