Hawwies Fourie is a very good coach. He turned Maties into a Mighty Maroon Machine. His gameplan worked perfectly playing against the wind (ball in hand) and with the wind (get in the right area). Good to see Momberg & van Rhyn back for Maties. Both Gimmies playing together since u7. Mombergs dad Paarl Gym and WP Craven Week coach a few years back.

Yep, I was sadly at the game. We was whipped. Every player in the Maties team was good and played well. In the Ikeys team five or six of the players were good or played to their potential.

The Maties have a professional setup (as professional as a smaller union) and it showed. They were very well coached and conditioned. They closed down our space and the speed of the rush defence gave the Ikeys backs no space to run. They were particularly good at the breakdown and the ref was a little lax in that department so it was open season, and the Maties forwards were very effective.

Ikeys dissapointed me in that the coaches have the players playing too regimented. We are more of an amateur side and we have to play to the old Ikey strengths. There were a number of occasions we had a penalty against the wind where a fast tap kick would have been the best option but instead we opted to kick for touch and use set piece to attack from and the Maties defence could re-organise. You have to loosen up the game against well organised and coached teams.

Ek dink Hawies moet daar bly. Hy kan blou jare die Maties afrig. Eerder dit as 'n Currie Cup span of SupeRugby span waar die mense jou wil fire na 'n swak seisoen.

Ek dink nie hy was onder druk by Griekwas nie, wie wil in Kimberley bly as jy van Ceres kom? Wens hy kan die u20s vat. Chean Roux het nie n clue nie.

Ernst van Rhyn (SA u20 capt) is in the Stormers current squad had a very good game last night. I also like Chris Smit in 12. Maybe cause we have Ellende, Smit was MOTM last night, solid on defense , active in rucks and breaking the line a few times.

I love the pace Maties are playing as a team.

It was a great game to watch, kept me interested all the way through. Chris Smit is a good player but his discipline is very poor. I rate the Maties loose forwards highly, I think they are the key to this Maties team. Pity Streicher was injured.

Smit is an active player and over eager is part playing like him. He never made the WP u19 or U21 teams which is a surprise. Yep Johann van Niekerk surely is tough customer. He was impressive for Grey High since his schooldays

WATCH: Wits player breaks down in post-match interview

Cape Town - Wits wing Bin Kasende Kapepula gave one of the more emotional post-match interviews you're ever likely to see on Monday.

The 23-year-old was named the 'Player that Rocks' after his side's thrilling 30-29 win over UCT in the Varsity Cup, and when he gave his post-match interview the emotion was too much for some of those who had gathered at Wits Stadium to deal with.

Wearing a vest with the words 'RIP Christine Osborne. I love you baby' printed on the front, Kapepula began telling the most heart-wrenching story about the week he had suffered and how motivated he had been to put in a good performance.

"This is the love of my life, Christine Osborne," he said, choking up.

"She passed away last week Wednesday ... my beautiful girlfriend. I played my heart out for her. I know she's looking down and she's so happy with me. I love you so much."

Wits captain Constant Beckerling then came to Kapepula's side to give his player, clearly struggling to hold it together, some support.

"Sometimes you just have to go back to why you play the game ... for the love of it, the friends, the brotherhoods," Beckerling said.

"Just because it is not a great season does not mean this is not a great team, and we showed it here today."

Wits are seventh on the Varsity Cup log having won two and lost four of their fixtures this season.

Maties scored some fantastic tries tonight. The SACS fly half really instrumental in almost every try.
