My favourite YouTube tech reviewer, MKBHD, has conducted an interesting experiment. He takes 16 smartphones and pits their camera's against each other in a blind test where you could vote via Instagram or Twitter. If you have 20 minutes it's an interesting watch - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5-bo8a4zU0&t=586s

Sorry if stoopid question.
ChromeOS is more akin to Windows 10S - a stripped down desktop OS, but as it's effectively new from the ground up it's far.more efficient hardware wise so you pay a lot less for equivalent performance.

Although it was originally conceived of as a "thin" device, it increasingly supports offline apps. It also has an Android runtime so supports most Android apps
OK, thanks. Thinking about it, Android being the smartphone OS, and ChromeOS being the tablet/chromebook OS. and they have found a way to bring that to the smartphone world.

Thinking about getting a Chromebook to replace her aging laptop - internet and email usage is really all it's for.
I'm thinking about the HP X2 as my primary laptop/tablet, and only using my corporate device for really hardcore content creation. I don't need to run any VMWare anymore, so it would seriously lighten my load when I'm out and about
Re Chrome - on my second Chromebook after drowning first Asus Flip (the small 10.1" metal body one) in coffee. Went for the Flip's bigger brother, the 12.5" full HD screen one. The Flip CA302. Have a nagging feeling although it's an improvement in every spec sense, I may use it less, simply because the older smaller one was just so bloody portable, it went everywhere with me. Chuck it in a backpack, briefcase, under car front seat, into a folio; anywhere and everywhere. This one feels more like a 'proper' laptop and needs to be planned around a bit more...

Well i finally had to give and put my Nokia930 Windows phone in the scrap box, not because it wasnt doing a good job but mainly because some apps used for work were not available for Windows. I was given the new Nokia 7 by work, well i have never been more disappointed with any tech like i am with Android, considering my old nokia was 3 years old and running what most people seem to say was a poor OS, Windows pisses all over android, the hardware is ok (Nokias have always been good). But android is buggy, slow, temperamental and honestly i can find no part of it that is superior to my old windows os.

My original Mate 20 Pro was faulty by the way, had to get it replaced (green tint to screen). Was a very easy process however and zero complaints. The phone is great. It came with free "Freebuds" which are wireless earbuds which are excellent. Prefer them over the Apple airpods.

Basically my complaints about the phone are very minor. Always on Display needs more options (like samsung does), the stock launcher is actually good but doesn't allow icon packs so you're stuck with the default icons unless you use nova prime or another launcher. Lack of headphone jack but since i got those huawei freebuds with the phone that's not a biggie either. Also think it's a tad too aggressve with the memory management (closing apps in the background) but not a big deal.

9/10 (above average display, great battery life, amazing charge time, excellent camera)

That's strange considering the Nokia 7 has received really positive reviews and runs pure Android.

I went and bought an X2 a couple of weeks ago with the benefit of a 20% discount voucher from HP

So far very impressed - the screen is just large enough that I can use it for pretty much everything, but it's small enough (and light enough) that it doesn't feel like a drag to take it everywhere. As a tablet it's supreme; as a laptop it's pretty damned good,.

Chrome still has some rough edges to work out but the rate of development is huge, and there's still some odd inconsistencies between Chrome extensions and Android apps - but they're easy enough to deal with. Probably the most annoying thing currently is that the Sonos app simply doesn't work

Change the theme. Some change the icons.

Good info about the Freebuds. I was looking at a pair

That was the reason i went with the Nokia 7. Basically i was given £300.00 against a handset from work anything over i would make up the difference. I used to repair handsets for a living right from the off as in Cell phones through to GSM etc. Nokias have always been well made compared to others, thats why i am so disappointed, I am just amazed at how poorly android seems to work. It has a very unfinished feel to it, maybe i just expected more.

I've not used a Windows phone but I believe iOS is probably the most "together" OS. Android has the most customisation scope and flexibility but manafacturer UI's and skins will alter that. Pure Android and Android One are completely bloat free so it's weird that you found it so unfinished. And the latest iterations are awesome. Better than the latest iterations of iOS are falling behind.

Face unlock works well but 6 didgit pin is annoying when it's lying flat on the desk.

So Gboard keyboard always defaults to gif and then you must hit it... :x

Face unlock in pitch black is pretty good as well.

Don't have the same problem with Gboard on my phone.

I got the G5s Plus last year on Amazon. Very happy with it for the price although it's getting a bit laggy recently. Might need to delete a few apps.
Apart from that, I think they're very good value and will definitely get a Moto again.
The G6 looks a great phone for the price.

If you can, wait as the S10 will likely be released late February so you can get a next generation phone then. As for another suggestion, Huawei Mate 20 and Mate Pro.

Of the three you listed, the S9 is the best all rounder, the Pixel is the best camera and UI and the 6T is best bang for your buck and performance if you go for the 8GB ram model.

The S9 has Bixby but you can disable it and remap the Bixby button with an app.

I have the G5S+ as well, from Hong Kong via eglobal. Into year two with it and happy til recently, when I was on a work trip taking me through HKG and got an out of the blue prompt to update the OS version. Did so and wish I hadn't. Big issues since with mobile network connectivity fluctuating wildly; battery life hit; device laggy; and for some reason phone now hit and miss when using hands free in car.

My project for this weekend is to try to unwind the update and go back to prior version, but a casual google tells me this may not be possible. More digging to be done.

Same. 8.1.0. Did it on impulse cos I was bored in an airport lounge. Despite having read somewhere a warning that updating phones from the grey market could be inviting trouble outside their origin region. No bugger to blame but this one.

Confused. Surely you did update it in its origin region?

And also confused as to why it'd make a difference. Surely hardware and software are the same everywhere?

You tell me! Whether it's Morkeshing bollix or not, I'm led to believe that models often have specific differences region to region, some of which will be operator specific.

The advice I remember reading was not to accept an update until it's rolled out in your 'home' region. Ihave no interest in rooting phones; happy to keep stock. Yes, updated in HKG which was 'home' for the phone, and whilst I was out there in that neck of the woods had no issues. Pretty much day 1 back in IRL, and performance goes to shit. On way home from DUB to Midwest and hands free calls went la-la. Cue the rest.

Have to admit, phones as mini computers are leaving me cold. Just fecking work and don't demand I 'manage' you, you piece of shit; I'm not getting paid to do that...

Changing phones tomorrow. Huawei P30 Pro or Samsung S10 plus ???

Samsung is $200 more. Pro has no farking headphone jack (I listen to a lot of music)

Samsung has better screen

Pro has better camera.

UI seems to be a wash.

Samsung is $200 more. Pro has no farking headphone jack (I listen to a lot of music) - If you listen to music a lot do you have bluetooth headphones? The P30 Pro comes with a dongle that allows you to use your corded headphones anyway.

Samsung has better screen - You won't notice the difference between the two so that's a non-issue.

Pro has better camera - The camera on my Mate 20 Pro is outstanding. The camera on the P 30 Pro is better. I bought the Mate 20 Pro for the camera.

UI seems to be a wash - Samsung's new UI is really good. Huawei's is a bit like the Samsung of old with a lot of needless features but is getting better.

See my answers above.

Additionally, both have excellent battery life, though the P30 Pro is the better and will charge from dead to full in just over an hour.

I've found that my Mate 20 Pro has really quick downloading and connectivity compared to my previous Note 8.

Thanks TB and Native. Good to know about the screen - not noticing difference.

Yes, battery life does get better marks on the Pro for sure.

I think the Pro now comes with USB-C headphones - so no dongle anymore. Problem is the DAC/sound quality. I have never been impressed with bluetooth no matter how they keep telling me it is. I want to believe them but ears say otherwise.

I'm defo leaning to Pro.

My Mate 20 Pro came with a dongle and USB Type C headphones so I could still plug in my decent Sennheiser's.

Problem. Ordered the P30 Pro, but then my moral compass started moving around and nagging at me.

Does the fact the Chinese govt have held 2 Canadians for 5 months, and arrested 17 others on bogus charges mean I shouldn't buy Huawei?? And if you didn't know, it's because Canada carried out an extradition order from the States and arrested the Huawei CEO.

I assume they would have done the same if we'd nabbed the Samsung CEO?????
