Dog just got killed

Our 10 month old black lab just got knocked down outside our house. Poor thing died in the car on way to vets. He was a present for my daughter's 14 birthday. She is devistated.

Each night when the family went to bed, I would have a whisky, smoke a cigar and would allow him up on the sofa next to me. Sitting here alone now, I miss him.

Never having a dog again. Never.

Sad story VBall . Felt like that three dogs ago .!

When you weaken , and you will , go on Lab website . Plenty of them looking for good homes , most for the right reasons , divorces , bereavements etc .

Some years ago I had a Newfoundland from the breeds animal rescue site . One evening I walked with her to the local offlicence when a guy came up to me and said that he had just had his 14 year old lab put down . He started making a fuss of my dog and burst into tears , he couldn't speak and was obviously upset and embarrassed . I wasn't much better and stayed with him until he regained his composure . When I got home Mrs C&R asked why I'd been crying . Don't know what the hell she was talking about .

Guys my dog died of a paralysed oesophagus when it was a puppy. I feel for the OP, I'm just wondering why the dog was in the road. Did it escape?

I always get pounced on for these completely benign questions.

Well obvs because otherwise the dog may not now be deceased if the circumstances were different.

You brought it up by asking me if it mattered. You have the memory of a goldfish (deceased)

Right can everyone stop having a pop at me for no reason now. Say, the dog jumped the fence. Now we know, no really need to go ape at me for asking you bunch of mental midgets.

Sad news, mate. That's hard. I bawled when my childhood Golden Retriever died even though it was peacefully from old age. Must have been traumatic for your little girl.

Probably hard to see at the moment but there may be something she can take from it down the track. The loss of family pets, especially if it's the first time she's had to cope with death, can help them understand grief and the loss of loved ones later in life. There are a number of ways you can help her (and you) deal with grief. Might be worth checking out.
