Hillary by lots.
My view too. Last time round an American republican supporter I work with was telling me Romney and Obama ended up winning by 126 in the electoral college. Great for me as I'd bet him a pound a point that it would be Obama.

This time I reckon Hillary might win by 300+.

I struggle to find what people find difficult about this.

Just over a year ago I went to Sicily for two weeks to get a feel for local feeling about the influx of people across the Med. I spoke to many people and they were all terrified and said the wave coming was going to be unprecedented.

I came on here and predicted the re-imposition of border controls at passes and key land crossings across Europe. I had the Great Groucho scoffing at me.

What we got was worse. Utter chaos across Europe. The collapse of Schengen, the reinstatement of borders everywhere, vast fences built in the state of weeks, mountain passes closed, etc etc etc.

And people laugh at the notion of a border between America and Mexico!!! What is astounding is that there isn't one. Astounding. On Youtube there is a clip of a bloke crossing the Rio Grande dressed as Osama bin Ladan. In fact, he did it twice.

It is insane. And people think a policy reeking of SANITY is wrong? Here's news for you mate, they don't, and that's why Trump is where he is, right now.

If you don't have borders you don't have a country. End of.
The EU Commission just agreed to visa-free travel for people coming from Turkey in exchange for them taking back migrants that went to Greece. (Doesn't apply to the UK, Ireland, or Cyprus.)

Re Mexico, former President Vicente Fox and a few other Mexican officials FWIW put out an olive branch to Trump and asked him to visit yesterday.

Jesus freak and former Pennsylvania Senator and grandson of a coal miner, Rick Santorum, in his 2014 book "Blue Collar Conservatives", questionably asserted that Romney would have won the White House had so many conservative blue-collar workers not stayed at home.

Well, Trump read Santorum’s book and then met up with Santorum in New York, a meeting which Santorum subsequently described to Fred Barnes at The Weekly Standard.

“Trump,” Santorum said, “liked the idea of being concerned about working men and women who have lost the opportunity to have the good-paying jobs they used to have.”

Yes, Trump “liked the IDEA of being concerned” and then he just had to sell it.

This election campaign will be the most fascinating of my lifetime.

Trump will say whatever he wants; he is as unburdened by any sense of shame as he is by ideology. He knows social media will amplify his words and the press will clamour to hear him, not question him ("I know words, I have the best words"). Moreover, he has every dog-whistle in his pocket and and he is ready to blow.

Indeed. It is an amusing ad, but Adams point about its impact makes sense.

Scott Adams has been one of the most accurate people in explaining/getting Trump. He predicted him winning back in August. His blogs on the subject are worth a read and are genuinely more insightful than the regular diet of tripe we're getting c&p'd by political hacks from the mainstream media and Salon, the Atlantic, etc.

I get why Trump won the GOP primaries. I don't like it, I'm very disturbed by the implications, but I get it. I don't get how that translates into winning the main competition, even against Clinton, without the rest of the USA undergoing a bout of mass amnesia.

But surely you can see why Hillary is scarier? So Trump might (he might not) stand up for the 99%. He will be watched closely which is no bad thing and will have nothing to hide behind (he's white and male). Hillary will only represent the 1%. And she seems to love killing and war. She is controlled and dangerous. Obama was controlled and a fake but wasn't too mad / bad. Hillary is mad.

Trump's candidacy says a great about the mess the Republican party has got itself into since the rise of the 'tea party' faction.

Don's gonna show that you can either:

1. Be extreme enough to win the GOP nomination

or

2. Be moderate enough to appeal to enough of the mass electorate to win the Presidency.

But you can't be both.

Van is a regular CNN panelist - very insightful guy (in a way that most of their aloof beltway insider voices are not - eg Peter Beinart) but often gets too emotional. His analysis here is good, especially re: the Rust Belt. Sanders did well in this region of the country with a similar trade message to Trump's and NAFTA and the Clintons are widely disliked. Dennis Kucinich enjoyed wide popularity in Ohio throughout the Clinton years with a similar anti-NAFTA message.

The point with Trump is that he was/is the only candidate that is left field enough that he can over come this current divide in the republican party:
Don's gonna show that you can either:

1. Be extreme enough to win the GOP nomination
or
2. Be moderate enough to appeal to enough of the mass electorate to win the Presidency.

which essentially destroyed Romney's chances, and be different enough to break some existing voting patterns.

Cruz was never going to win a general election, a person who would unit left and center against him. Neither was Jeb, that family name vs Clinton's = not a snowball's chance in hell.

If Trump can do enough between now and November to get the party officially endorsing him, and I think he's smart enough to cut it, and then find something to sweeten the pot for the mass electorate, he'll be a force.

Anyone have a link or can give a quick low-down on the policy differences between Trump and establishment Republicans? I can only think of Trump's opposition to free trade agreements like NAFTA and the TPPA. It seems like Paul Ryan represents a body of opinion within the GOP that think Trump is a Bernie democrat in disguise. :o

And then you have the complete depowerment of the media who have fallen so far. To go outside the election for the moment, the BBC - supposedly one of the gold standards when it comes to independent search for truth journalism - made complete fools of themselves this week taking hook, line, and sinker the words of Craig Wright that he was Bitcoin founder Satoshi Nakamoto from a misleading proof...and two days later he withdrew from public life because he couldn't deal with people's criticism of him or that his "proofs" weren't really proofs.

When you have a weak media, they can't hold people to account. Nicheification has ruined them financially. So either they go out of business or they chase ratings. Trump drove ratings and web clicks. And the outlets that have propped up and created these separate niches are too small and divided for most people to listen to them, as well as lacking the credentials that everyone respects what they say is true automatically.

I liken it to an unheralded boxer (Trump) who has beaten a lot of solid and underrated opposition (GOP candidates) on his way up to a title shot but doesn't get any credit for beating them because they weren't big names. Supporters of the champion (Clinton) think it will be an easy win because they don't rate Trump's prior opposition and blindly believe their guy (or gal) is so superior in every way that she cannot possibly lose.

As someone who has supported almost every one of the other GOP candidates against Trump, I think the Clinton supporters are going to be in for a shock as to just how tough this fight is going to be. When you look where Trump has come from (he was viewed as a joke candidacy) to where he is today in the race....this is not a individual that is to be underestimated.

The Dem CNN analyst Van Jones, who has watched every one of Trump's previous fights closely, gets it. It's like he said in the video "haw haw, the Trump train is not going to get any bigger, it's not going to hit us.......splat". That's the danger.

I just don't understand how Clinton is regarded as a 'heavyweight'. Who has she beaten? Ever? With all of the political machinations and support behind her, she is struggling to overcome an old bloke who calls himself a socialist who never acomplished much in the game. Bernie Sanders shouldn't have gone close to a serious contender. He wouldn't have gotten a single delegate against the likes of Obama or Bill Clinton. Hillary made him look like a big deal though...

When it all boils down to it, Hillary Clinton's only great asset is being Bill Clinton's wife. All of her power comes from that. She got to where she is by calling in favours. That's really all she has. The ultimate political insider trading off her accomplished husband's name and powerbase. And favours don't mean much anymore. Fortunately for her, the GOP's division and the rise of the crazies means that actual political operators are sidelined. Hillary won't have to contend with a Romney, McCain or Ryan. She is going to up against a reality tv star who got the nomination by whipping some Tea Party loons.

This is truly a cripple fight.

I find it laughable that people regard either of them with much respect.

The problem is that Trump does not operate the same way as all the politicians to have attacked her over that time. She has never had to deal with anything like him.

It will be very nasty and incredibly entertaining

 That clip of Jeb saying he needs therapy at the end made me really laugh out loud. It's so funny, it's just like a tv show.

Can you imagine this guy could end up representing America
