What a stupid meme.

How can Russia retake Constantinople when they've never held it.

It's a meme, so I'd rather not go into it in too much detail, of course it is stupid.

HOWEVER, if you go to the Kremlim, it is quite interesting just how much of a quasi religious place it is, as opposed to just a functionary administrative capital.

There is a very mystical and important concept of Moscow as a 'Third Rome' and an important sense that as Constantinople fell, Moscow became a religious centre in exile for the Orthodox Church.

So Russia 'retaking' Constantinople in this case is not on behalf of Russia, but on behalf of Orthodox Christianity, Christianity at large, and Western Civilisation in the whole.

That is certainly how I saw it, and I'm surprised anyone could read it any other way.

The Hagia Sophia is quite probably the most incredible building I've been to, and all the more remarkable for the fact that since 1453 it has been a Muslim mosque, and yet, it was still a Christian cathedral for even longer.

Astounding.

I for one, think both candidates are paving the way for my favoured candidate, future President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho. He's a porn star and five-time ultimate smackdown wrestling champion, a great man and a great american. He will serve up a can of whoop ass if you cross him.

Trump will be trounced by female voters, young well-educated voters, recent immigrants and first-generation Americans and African Americans. Can't see him winning Florida, Virginia, Colorado or Pennsylvania.

Hillary has a big 'in' with the Irish Americans through the GFA as well.

I suspect Trump has the Camacho vote sewn up.

Both Bill and Hill played a big part in getting the Brits to agree to the GFA.

Hill is also likely to use Bill to fire up the democratic heartlands, including Barrys 'wifi' generation. She'll also have Barry himself manning the phones. Hill will just have to look presidential to win.

Mods.

Seriously, can we have a rule that Engineers are banned from politics threads.

When it comes to questions on airplanes on conveyor belts, awesome, but get them off the politics stuff.

Thanks.

I am interested in why Hillary is viewed with such loathing. She has a reasonable record overall-is pretty moderate and obviously has tremendous ambition. She represents the establishment, is part of the troubling tradition of USA dynastic politics and possibly will be the last mainstream candidate given how the US bipartisan system is quite obviously no longer fit for purpose.

Is it because she's a woomin? I suspect a great deal of it is.

I think you suspect wrong. A lying warmonger, who has no ethics and is totally driven by psychopathic ambition yet is easily bought and paid for. The presidential assumption that has been around for a long time sticks in the craw of many.

Oh and shes not easy on the eye.

I think Trump will wipe the floor with Clinton, potential landslide victory.

Trump has proven himself adept at making other people's flaws an issue whilst his own don't seem to become an issue. Hillary is a Washington insider and establishment candidate, bought and paid for by Goldman. She is also deeply flawed and widely loathed, there are question marks over her health and her honesty which whether real or not will be exploited by Trump. Lyin' Ted is gone, crooked Hillary Clinton up next.

I would expect Trump to move to a far more sensible place policy wise, he's no longer after the Conservative vote as they have no place else to go now.

But... but... that would so hard on Hillary, a horrible way to end a career. President presumptive before Obama reared his ethnically correct head, to go down now to a dick waving demagogue would be just too much :(( :(( :((

It would be more brutal, and even more enjoyable than a WoodmanCasting film, if she is finally criminally charged by the FBI and locked up.

If Hillary can solve her minor (but potentially serious) blue collar working class male voter problem, she'll destroy Trump.

I'm going to enjoy watching Hillary win this election. All the idiotic Trump acolytes such as Seneca, Croft, Blackrock Bullet etc will be made to look so stupid. That will be so funny to watch.

Trump can beat Hillary if he sticks to bashing on the issues as opposed to her gender, that would just backfire.

It's because she is a power hungry, lying psychopathic plum, who stands for absolutely nothing other than what promotes brand Hillary, and if that requires her organizing the destruction of the Libyan government, the Syrian government, and whover else is next, then she doesn't care.

If she wasnt American she would have been burned alive by this point, and she deserves it. At the very least, she should be behind bars or hanged for war crimes.

The issue she has is that every single insult Trump will throw at her will be likely accurate. He's certainly not fit to be President; however she is precisely the kind of politician that Americans appear tired of. She's Kevin Rudd in a skirt. Unlike Rudd, her long public career means there is no honeymoon. I reckon this may be a lot closer than many people expect.

Trump is certainly unfit to be President; however Hillary is a worm and most Americans know it.

I don't think it'll matter, the demographics are so badly stacked against him.

There's an interesting look at the numbers here - https://theconversation.com/president-t ... kely-58758

Yeah, he's in trouble.

The good news is that the Dems might win the Senate and the GOP could stop using the supreme court as a political plaything for at least a generation. Perhaps with luck, the GOP totally implodes and they lose the house.... would need a huge implosion though. :?

Perhaps, with a lot of luck, the nutjobs that have driven the GOP ideology will be pushed back to the fringes where they belong, and the GOP returns to some kind of sensible social and economic position. Perhaps we only will have to put up with 4 years of the phony, corrupt piece of shit.

Likely 8 though. Good time to buy shares in US investment banks and arms manufacturers?
