And as the pub is attached to the brewery it's nz$11 for a proper 568ml pint.

That's a top beer which only seems to be infrequently and fleetingly available up here.

Thankfully I've been getting my hand on some McLeod's excellent Brown Porter.

Gotta say, haven't found a single red ale I enjoy.
Such bitter taste to them.
Any Irish recommendations?

None.

Really don't like the style. Sorry not to have been more helpful

+1. Never found one I liked even a little bit.

There are more good beers than ever before in more of the world than ever before. Don't waste your time with styles you don't like.

Nice. The Volstead had that on for a while. McLeod's do some lovely stuff.

Tried a couple of these Parrotdog Colin West Coast IPA’s last night. Lovely, balanced brew. A touch light in the aftertaste but very smooth for 7%.

Very nice. Try Keith, I think it’s the hazy ipa from the same range.

I’m enjoying the Jags fight back while immensely enjoying a Liberty brewing Invictus. 2019 fresh hop pale. Fantastic beer

It's a lovely drop. Their "Keith" is also very good. There's a "Susan" as well, but I haven't managed to try that yet.

Mine have always been: Corona, Stella Artois, and the beloved Port-a-gaff (Guiness with a dash of lemonade)

Lemonade in Guinness? FFS man, that's a crime! Bet it pours easily in the glass as well?

Not a fan either but Chimay Red is enjoyable. I just wouldnt pick it off a shelf where I could get a blue or a white say.

As for Irish, might as well stick to Smithwicks or McArdles. The craft ones are useless.

Cwtch, fine fine pint on cask. Irish wise, always been a fan of 8 Degrees' Sunburnt red, let me think here.

Chimay Red isn't a red ale. It's a dubbel.

I find cwtch only just drinkable at best. Hook island was probably as good as I've tasted. Just don't like them.

Boxcar, did you forget about watney's red barrel?

I love 'em to be honest, up there with a fine brown ale or 80 shilling as a comfort beer. Smithwicks would tend to be my Irish beer desert drink.

It'd be a boring world if we all liked the same thing.

For instance, people think the sun shines out of verdant's arse, whereas I'm fairly ambivalent.

Ah I realise I'm cheating slightly but it's red and it's an ale

Actually if you're looking for an interesting one, White Hag's Meabh Rua is a big strong peat smoked red. Keep an eye out for Heaney's Red Ale, they're going to be a brewery to watch in general. Maybe would also count Kinnegar's Devil's Backbone even if they label it as an amber.

I mean if you like the 2 or 3 IPAs they keep relabeling they're great.

Yeah I've had the White Hag. It's a bit different alright.

Haven't heard of Heaneys will keep an eye out for that

So Redchurch have gone into administration. Their boss was ripping the arse out of the company including the crowd funding.

Pity, at one point they had a few very good beers and a cracking taproom. Their sour range under james rylance (now at harbour) was exceptional.

Actually, reading more about this it seems they're keeping the tap room under a different co name and selling off the brewery to cover debts. Completely fúcking over the small investors.

A lot of the last £875k went into the owner's pocket. And nose.

Weird that. I'm always supremely sceptical around any brewery's crowdfunding scheme but the way Redchurch had been going it seemed like money after nothing in particular.

Work done for the week as I'm working on the experiment, pressure drop and verdant's taproom which reopens at 4.

The sun is out and I have free range of the taps and fridges.

Life is tough sometimes.

I'm going to watch some of the Giro at Look Mum No Hands and then off to the Old Fountain with some Septic friends who are in London.

We might pop down to the Moor taproom afterwards and Needoo Grill is a distinct possibility.

One of the benefits of being unemployed/retired :)

Enid street is a fair diversion for what sounds like an excellent afternoon.

If I'm in the old fountain I normally end up going to the wenlock. I've a soft spot for that pub.

Lucky Bastard!
Let me know if you have Verdant's "Thanks a Million" if it's on. It was the investors beer and I didn't quite invest enough for the freebies they sent out
They've caused a bit of a row as they've re-brewed it already when it was supposed to be an investors one-off. Hopefully on line to buy tomorrow.
They released an American Brown Ale collab with Boxcar last week. Would be interested to know what it's like on keg as the can is not bad.

Im sure it was mentioned here previously but if you get a chance to try the garage project May Fresh IPA then please do, Stunning.

Pomeroys here in Chch currently have all 4 versions of the garage project x guest brewers Hapi sessions on tap, along with the May fresh IPA.

Vol 1 - GP x trillium brewing (USA) Juicy Hazy east coast IPA (One of the best beers Ive had this year)
Vol 2 - GP x firestone walker brewing (USA) hoppy Pils, crisp and clean
Vol 3 - GP x other half brewing (USA) Hazy, hoppy Oat cream IPA
Vol 4 - GP x three weavers brewco (USA) Big body West Coast IPA

I'm not a huge GP fan but these are Fantastic beers!
