Take a hike and get worse? Not an option. They couldn't replace him on the market.

Middleton is a lot better than Bogey - much better defender and creator.

He's also very good friends with Giannis!

Nerlens getting cold feet, has asked to reconsider. Must have seen that Horford deal and shat himself.

Thunder sign Muscala... which means maybe Noel deal not a done deal yet?

Also, Favors to the Pelicans! Solid pickup.

EDIT: you beat me to it, JCG. Interesting...

https://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/pcm_finder.fcgi?request=1&sum=0&player_id1_hint=Khris+Middleton&player_id1_select=Khris+Middleton&player_id1=middlkh01&y1=2019&player_id2_hint=Bojan+Bogdanovic&player_id2_select=Bojan+Bogdanovic&y2=2019&player_id2=bogdabo02&idx=players

They were very comparable last year, with Bogey being more efficient, and Bogey didn’t have the benefit of the Greek to draw away attention from him. I mean, the Bucks had way more weaponry to give Middleton space and options.

Middleton is one of the most overrated players in the league IMO. He had one great playoff series and was subsequently anointed.

He might be a little better than Bogey owing to his slightly superior D, but he’s nowhere near a max player. Not even close. Bogey’s deal is far better value.

They would have done better to take a chance on a someone else and keep Brogdon IMO. Or maybe pick up someone via trade. Although apparently Brogdon was hell-bent on playing PG and they’ve clearly chosen Bledsoe going forward.

I don't disagree here. He's overpaid.

They just couldn't risk this:

He was always getting the max. Just like Harris was.

Shams, Sources: Golden State and Brooklyn are close to a D'Angelo Russell sign-and-trade deal to the Warriors.

KD really did the Thunder dirty...

EDIT: More Shams: Warriors are on verge of acquiring Russell, Treveon Graham and Shabazz Napier from Brooklyn, league sources said.

Unreal.

Nate: With a S&T for Russell triggering a GSW hard cap, basically the only way they can get him and fill out a team is moving one of Andre Iguodala or Draymond Green.

Woj bomb, Golden State and Brooklyn have agreed on a sign-and-trade, sending D’Angelo Russell to the Warriors on a four-year, $117M maximum contract, league sources tell ESPN.

Shit.

Thunder got nothing for prime KD. :frown:

More Woj: Golden State has to unload salary elsewhere to make this sign-and-trade happen --- which means Andre Iguodala could be on the move, league sources tell ESPN.

This has been madness.

Woj, Golden State is trading Andre Iguodala to the Memphis Grizzlies, league source tells ESPN. Warriors are sending a 2024 protected first-round pick in the 2024 (protected 1-4), 2025 (protected 1) and 2026 unprotected.

Nice for Grizz here.

God knows MJ has had his issues as a GM/owner/whatever he is, but honestly I think he did the right thing letting Kemba walk. Some players are not worth a quarter-plus of your cap space. (Of course Kemba would have taken up more, but same principle applies) Let some other team make that mistake and take a chance on someone young like Oubre IMO. Or even a mediocre 3rd/4th option type like Harrison Barnes.

Thinking off the top of my head, the Grizzlies shouldn’t be too bad next year.

Yeah, splashing $200m on a player to get 10th in the East would have been a big misake.

If MJ was never going to give Kemba the max, then why did he not trade him for assets when he had the chance?!

He then signs Rozier to the worst contract of the day.

Kemba said he'd take a discount as well.

The Hornets weren't willing to give him 170m.

I know these are crazy numbers, but that's today's market for a top player.

Check out Dame's contract...

EDIT: Dame gonna get 54m in his final year. And he'll be OLD.

It's not all good for the Warriors, with the trade they get a hard cap and they've only got $18m to fill NINE roster spots....

Again, I actually agree with the decision not to sign Kemba - but they had to get something back for him!

They then use up cap space on a trash PG?! Crazy.

They can't sign Looney now.

Boston will be after him, you'd imagine.

Randle, Gibson, Portis...

All prefer playing the 4.

Knicks gonna Knicks.

Well, I didn’t say he was the best GM

Maybe he thought he could get Kemba to stay for a discount. Apparently he was willing but MJ lowballed him below even that

Still, he was the first (AFAIK) to decline to offer a supermax to an eligible player. On that count, fair dues.

He may have been hoping to get a discount on the regular max rather than the super-max.

Hornets are a mess...

I feel for their fans, tho.

And now we have another massive PG contract. Again a big overpay - but Denver can't attract shit in free agency, so they have to do this.

Murray at 5/170m!

The Knicks are a dumpster fire.

It boggles the mind how badly Dolan runs that ship.

They are the biggest market in the NBA FFS - but players are openly not wanting to go there.

With the Nets down the street, why the hell would they?

Ha! Just dug up this quote from the day of the Porzingis trade, it’s nice to be right every once in a while:

The other thing is some Pacers fans need to look at how some other superstars walk out the door before they boo PG for telling management well in advance he wasn't gonna resign.

Very true. And he didn’t tank his trade value by blasting it all over the media.

Not that I haven’t enjoyed him getting bounced in the first round of the playoffs two years in a row, mind...(sorry MB!)

Beverly to stay with the Clippers.

With this frenzy going on, there's not that much left for the Lakers if they don't get Kawhi and it's not like they can trade for anyone.

Yep, he'd be a good get.

Here's the free agent tracker on the nba.com https://www.nba.com/freeagents/2019/tracker

Patrick McCaw is available, he's a guaranteed championship.

Per Shams, Free agent Reggie Bullock has agreed two-year, $21M deal to sign with the New York Knicks, agent David Bauman of ISE Basketball tells @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium.

Man... these Knicks.

One less shooter off the market for the Lakers to acquire, but.

Regardless of what you think of him as a talking head, Knicks fan Stephen A Smith's reaction to the Knicks missing out on everyone and being trumped by Brooklyn is classic comedy:

Almost as good as his reaction to the draft

Looking at the Knicks roster, it's not as bad as it could be. Randle is the only above average guy they've signed and even that deal isn't as bad as it could be. So they get a team of average pros on short term contracts, look to build around their young core and reset next year. It's about as good as they could have hoped for after whiffing on free agency, I guess.

Hassan Whiteside to Portland. He's a decent physical big to tide them over till Nurk is fit again. Can block shots (but an over-rated defender), catch lobs & rebound. Overpaid, but only one year contract I think.
