He seems to be too heavy to be that explosive. He’s a bit like Blake Griffin in som ways and he has had numerous injury problems.

Yep, that kind of weight in a sport like basketball cannot be good on the knees.

They need to get him on keto or something. It’s a worry at his age.

Watching Zion play reminds me of Barkley. Sir Charles used to look like a fatty but would bounce all around the court like he was wearing ballet shoes.

 yeah some of his highlights reels where he does one man fast breaks and leaps of one foot and double handed dunks and swings on the hoop were pretty epic... I was a big fan of him back in the day...

Zion tore his meniscus - he's had surgery and is out for 6-8 weeks.

Too much man for these knees. Massively concerning moving forward. :uhoh:

EDIT: I think he'll be out a lot longer...

There's some pretty good odds on other players for RotY that could be worth a bet with Zion's health troubles.

Chuck a cheeky $10 on RJ Barrett or Tyler Herro, both paying decent odds.

Whew...after whispers of a trade the Pacers extend Sabonis for a touch more than what they're paying Myles Turner (about $19m). Very happy with that, was worried he was about to get shipped out.

Jaylen Brown extended for $29m a year

That Brown one is big, he's not gonna be worth that unless he kicks on. Good to see the Kings have seen sense and paid Buddy Hield.

Bogut is playing in the NBL - maybe a temporary or game-by-game contract?

No, he's on a full contract with the Kings. The rumour I heard is that he's looking at getting a share of the ownership of the team.

There's every chance he'll look at signing a late season NBA contract after the NBL season like he did last season. A lot of playoff teams would probably be happy to get a veteran inside presence on a cheap deal.

On the subject of Melo, Zach Lowe had a guy on his podcast who'd done a real deep dive into why he's no longer in the league and especially his aborted run in Houston. Was pretty interesting, basically he's no longer good enough on offense to justify him not being able to defend. And when a team is already having to make up for Harden not defending they can't have another guy out there who can't.

Harden.

Russ with a trip-dub today. Rox are fun with him on and Harden off...

They can't defend for shit, but - with anyone on.

In other news, just finished watching the Suns beat the Clips. I like a lot of guys on the their roster, and I love their coach. Hoping they have a half decent season.

Kings look done already. Have you tuned in to this shit show yet, goey? Really disappointing...

Thunder are tanking well - they look like the worst team in the league. I'm not exaggerating here either. The good news is, SGA has looked awesome - so that will keep me going...

Steve has looked terrible - him and CP3 just aren't on the same page right now. Bittersweet watching Gallo out here - I love that dude and wish the Thunder had him when they were contenders.

Out of respect for Curry, I put the Warriors at 8th in my WC standings.

That is looking very, very generous right now.

They are currently getting murdered by the Thunder after getting murdered by the Clips. They are comically bad.

I'll take this win, even though I'm in full on tank mode.

Back to the Raiders...

I am no fan of GSW, but you would think they would go back to fundamentals and build up from there. I think they sorely missing Iguadola and of course Klay. Will show how good a coach Kerr is with a weakened/low contender team though. If I were them I would find a way to grind out some wins, I think they have enough talent to get to 8th or so, but they should play the long game and look at next season when Klay back as their main end goal but build up to that. Maybe they will, it is nice to see GSW as underdogs again though and intriguing to see if they can climb back up...

Steve Kerr is not a good coach. He inherited that team off Marc Jackson, and was lucky enough to have role playing vets and KD arguably the best player in the league right now to help him win those rings.

He is a fraud.

Thunder Up btw. That game was lit!

AD with 40/20 in 3 quarters... 26/27 from the line!

Bron not rebounding at all - letting AD feast. During this game AD has moved ahead of Steph in the MVP race - at least on bet365.

In other news, Trae hurt his ankle - looks like he's out for a little bit. Which sucks.

In a (likely) blowout loss to the Suns.

Holy fvck, was watching that game earlier enjoying the manshaming, that's shitty news.

Literally crushed by Baynes. As the announcer said when it happened, that's a lot of man falling on you. He looked to be okay but I guess not.

Their season's fvcked anyway, complete garbage without Klay. Maybe they can pull what the Spurs did with their one-season tank to nab Duncan, and with him two decades of championship-level competitiveness.

In lighter news, I would love to see Domantas Sabonis on a rugby pitch. Old school physicality. Was bossing DeAndre Jordan around earlier this evening.

Luka really is something. His duel with Bron the other day was the best game I've watched this season.

Looks like Dwight is back!

Russ and the Rox remain brutal. :uhoh: I didn't pick the Rox to be better than the LA sides come the playoffs, but I did think they'd at least run well in the regular season. There's a long, long way to go - but they are simply awful right now.

I saw a stat that Harden is on track to miss more 3 pointers than any other player in the league even attempts.

The start to this season has been rough.
Just caught a replay of Pels-Clips. Jrue finally showed up after an utter dogshit start (and outgunned PG who hit the ground running) and Favors finally looks fit. Bring back Ingram and Zion and we might start to be annoying

I never watch other teams much these past seasons so I really didn't know Brandon Ingram was this good!! He looks like an all star and Fred Vinson has got his shot looking sweeeet (47% on 3s this season). He apparently is the only one who stays long after practice and puts in one on one work and it shows. (Vinson has Lonzo shooting 37% on 6 three point attempts per game!! The guy is good)

Someone will throw a max at BI this offseason and I'd say on this evidence the Pels will match it immediately. He sounds like he prefers the city too, after being miserable in LA

Check out all these recent first round picks:
Josh Hart 24 (12 ppg, 7 rpg this guy is awesome! Another player I had no idea was this good. Super valuable rotation guy and plays defence. Pels twitter loves him)
Jahlil 23 (for all his flaws this guy is a really gifted scorer in the paint)
Ingram 22 (26 ppg, 7 rpg and definite MIP candidate. Stepping up, All Star, living up to the no.2 pick)
Lonzo 22 (a lot to like when he's being aggressive but the injury-prone label is starting to stick :uhoh: )
NAW 21 (raw and in a scoring slump but has been a +/- beast so far as he's all energy and a superb passer. Looks like a steal in what is turning out to be a great draft class)
Jackson 21 (11 ppg and starting to make big shots in big moments)
Jax 19 (lol, raw as fudge and light as a feather, but it means he can leap  )
Zion 19

Plus all the Laker's picks. And if Kevin Love stays healthy and the Cavs keep not sucking we'll get their first round pick next year (surely they'll tank at some point to keep it)
And to those who say picks suck, our GM Trajan Langdon is a scouting genius. Our 2nd rounder from this draft is gonna be the next Ginobili 8) He's been outstanding on loan to the NBL

The future looks bright

Edit: Check out the highlights. Lots of the young guys featured yesterday. Jrue really is PG's daddy lately, stole his lollies about 5 times

Lots of strong play from the rookies this year...Morant, RJ Barrett, Coby White, Cameron Johnson, Herro, our Goga. Even second round picks Paschall and Carsen Edwards have had some good games already. I think Edwards in particular will prove to be a steal.

I know it's early season, but the stats some players are throwing up are becoming absurd:

Luka Doncic, 29.5 points, 10.7 rebounds, 9.3 assists.
Lebron James, 25 points, 7.9 rebounds, 11.1 assists.
James Harden, 39.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, 7.6 assists.
Giannis Antetokounmpo, 30.3 points, 14 rebounds, 6.2 assists.

More importantly, all of their teams are winning.

Wasn't there some observation about massive stats last season as well?

Read some articles that the start of this season is tanking in terms of viewership compared to last season.

I wonder why? No Durant, Curry or a dominant Super Team? This season is the most wide open in years.

I'm probably in the minority, but I do generally prefer when there's a big dog, Darth Vader team that has to be overcome, like the final "boss" in old school video games. That's why the dynamic of international rugby is so interesting to me with the dominance of the ABs.

However, despite having been pretty excited for the season, for some reason I've been a little less enthusiastic than I had thought I'd be, Pacers games aside. The load management hasn't helped, plus the East blows (and that's half the league), but I think it's also just that the way the teams and competitors have lined up just isn't as compelling as I thought it would be.

The Heat and Suns (before Baynes and Rubio went down), plus maybe the Celtics, have been the bright spots for me so far. Just playing good basketball, no media circus pushing them on me. Maybe Mavs too.

But the fact the media got exactly what they wanted, and the two best teams are in LA... x( ... literally no one outside of LA wants that.

Isn't part of the viewership problem is all the big stars seem to be focused in the west and most of the US population is in the east? Once you take out Godlen State, one of the population centres of the west, ratings are easily knocked. I don't think it helps.

BTW I also think the media's ever more acute obsession with stars rather than teams these days is what also makes viewerships more easily vulnerable in these situations.

Super teams have always boosted TV ratings. I supposed the absence of a super team has had an impact. The plastic fans who jumped on the Warriors bandwagon a few years ago, where have they all gone?
