To start the season the Pels were last/second last defensively...

Over the past 4 games with Favors healthy and coming off his minutes restriction (and over the death of his mom) we are FIRST!!

We're now 9-3 since I wrote this. They've turned the corner since the 13 game losing streak and the schedule is so much easier in the second half of the season... and guess who's back next week

ZION.

Just decides to drop 17 points in about 4 seconds...

4/4 from 3.

Please let this man stay healthy.

Finished with 22/7/3 in 18 minutes, even after feeling himself (taking it easy, I mean) through his first 3 stints on the floor.

That's hellishly impressive for a debut game.

List of NBA career scoring leaders:

1. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar - 38,387
2. Karl Malone - 36,928
3. Kobe Bryant - 33,643
4. Lebron James - 33,599
5. MIchael Jordan - 32,292

I'll be surprised if Lebron manages to pass Kareem before his NBA career ends, but you never know in this day and age.

All Star starters announced.

West - no surprises

Luka
Harden
James
Kawhi
AD

East -
Trae Young
Kemba
Siakam
Giannis
Embiid

Young makes it cause people don't care about defence or winning and cause Jimmy Butler can't be included as a guard. No Caruso either.

He hasn't been better than Lillard.

Young's putting up big numbers but he plays about half his minutes in garbage time and he's like the 3rd worst defender in the league.

He's getting no help from his teammates. Put him in a good team and he'd be like Curry.

Like a 2nd rate version maybe, not everyone is willing to sacrifice like Curry. Regardless I think winning should be a consideration and good team or bad team, Young is still a trash defender. Still, better than Kyrie making it after missing 25 games or whatever though.

Heartbreaking to wake to the tragic news of the Black Mamba and his daughter Gianna. His Adidas KB8II's were the best shoes I ever laced up and the only shoes I ever dunked in. The timing of his death just after Lbj overtook him in scoring is freaky too.

R.I.P Kobe

f**king horrible news. Was my favorite player growing up, needed to emulate his fadeaway to hang with the taller and more athletic players. He was due to be underrated in time coming between MJ and LeBron, maybe this will stem some of that... desperate to find a silver lining...

I'll admit I thought Trae Young was gonna flop in the NBA, so I'll give him his due: he's done well. And I don't have too much issue with one-dimensional players as not just anybody can score 25+ PPG...that said, he isn't going to lead a team anywhere without a lot of help.

Re: NBA season 2019/20 - Regular Season

I don't really have a problem with Young making the All Star team, it's a popularity contest and offence is always gonna be more sexy than defence. But I do think the increased talk of doing away with the front court/back court positions is gaining momentum and has some validity. I was listening to a Ringer podcast who put out the hypothetical of "What if Steph Curry hadn't got injured and was averaging 34 points a game" and you then have one of him, Harden or Luka not starting which would be seriously wack. Of course they'd all make the team, but why shouldn't they all start?

Also, on the subject of high scoring point guards, Dame Lillard has been on a ridiculous tear in the last 3 games, he's averaged over 50 a game and is shooting about 60% from 3.

You're making him sound like Isaiah Thomas. He's better than that.

I'm not sure Kobe was underrated or going to be underrated. He was the subject of the GOAT conversation for years before LeBron went to the Heat and won stuff. At the end of his career people did reflect and see his case for GOAT was not as close as discussed and some would question if he was even top 10. But he'll be remembered as a great player and Lakers fans love him in a way LeBron will never truely feel.

Anyone who would argue Kobe isn't top 10 all time is just an out n out hater.

The NBA has post-poned the Lakers v Clippers game. I think they should play it. The NBA calls itself the greatest show on earth, and the show must go on. Also this petition to change the NBA logo? Drives me nuts the lengths some grieving fans go to.

Eh, I dunno. I would have him top 10, but off the top of my head my list would be entirely players who I've seen during my lifetime other than Russel & Chamberlain who are such statistical outliers, they have to be included. I don't know how high to rank guys like Oscar Robertson, Elgin Baylor, Jerry West etc, but someone who's older than me or a genuine NBA historian might easily find a few more players from before the 80's to go with the likes of Jordan, Bird, Magic, James etc...it's not unrealistic for someone to have Kobe just outside the top 10.

Basketball is like cricket in that its a team sport in which an individual can exert an extraordinary level of power and control over a game. When I was growing up people rated Bird and Magic over MJ because he didn't have any rings but it was accepted that individually in a 1v1 game MJ was the best.
I think people who are players first will always choose the guy that is unbeatable in 1v1 pick up. Stripped of teammates and team interference, who is the best?
IMHO as a lifelong player an student of the game the guy holding the court when it's time to go home and eat our mamas dinner is either MJ or Kobe.

Kobe fans usually use emotion other than real facts in GOAT conversation. I have him on the fringes of top 10 anywhere between 9, 10, 11, 12 he is a phenomenen regardless where he sits.

I definitely would have following above him, MJ, Kareem, Magic, Bill Russell, Bird, Lebron, Shaq, Olajuwon, Duncan

MJ, Bron, Shaq, and Duncan, are all ahead of him for my money/my years watching. I don't have to think too hard about that either.

In today's NBA news:

https://twitter.com/ESPNStatsInfo/statu ... 5333265408
The Kings trailed the Timberwolves by 17 points with 2:49 left in the 4th quarter.

Since 1996-97, the first year of play-by-play data, NBA teams entered the day 0-8,378 when trailing by 17 or more in the final 3 minutes of the 4th quarter or overtime.

The Kings won, 133-129.
