Donegal is in Ireland but the accent is fairly much a nordie accent albeit softer than the 6 counties one.

There's a big difference in Donegal though. Letterkenny end sounds very Derry. Bundoran end sounds more like my neck of the woods.

It’s not long ago the south didn’t want the north because it’s a financial black hole, this may actually snowball and hook up with Brexit.

For me the key message in that video was Seamus Mallon's .

Slowly Slowly. Too fast would create incredible resentment on the Unionist side.

This is a United Ireland we're talking about. We need a non triumphalist, all inclusive United Ireland if that's what going to happen.

Most importantly quick border poll is a win for the shinners . We must prevent that at all costs.

TBH, that's probably still the case, but Brexit has really pushed the issue.
Best thing would have been to leave the status quo for several decades and try and ease as much of the resentment aside before broaching the subject and discussing it like rational adults, whatever the final outcome may be.
Instead, Brexit and the child politicians f**king the Stormont Assembly all by themselves has the issue more to the forefront.

It depends where you're from and what your experiences / family connections are. If you're from the top half or close to the border its often natural hinterland of where you live and the border is an irrelevance/inconvenience. But I've been surprsed at the number of southerners ive met who are stil wary of the place and haven't been to Belfast, or have recently gone and are shocked that its a pretty cool modern cty and not a backdrop to a Simple Minds video.

Its interesting on this thread that a lot of the constitutional/economic/social issues around unification seem surmountable. Its when symbols, anthems and oaths kick in that people start taking the hump. So not a lot of change in 100 years.

No. Traditionally protestant farmers tended to be the bigger land owners but not sure how the balance tips these days. Theres a bit of a crisis/conundrum in farming circles with the traditional issue of who to leave the farm to bundled up with sectrian issues. i.e not only do farmers want to keep the land in the family, but also in their particular community. Thats becoming harder to control and plan. Hence a load of dodgy land manouvering and shell company carry on.

Willies your man, he'll be good value on this.

It sounds trite given all the other gubbins but this is where things like not hosting the RWC are a bit of a miss. needs things like that to just soften the edges a little for people. For those that think that beyond the border "there be dragons."

Out of interest if there was a poll tomorrow how would boredies North and South vote?

Southern Options:
1. Def Yes
2. Def No
3. Head says no, heart says yes and go with Heart
4. Head says no, heart says yes and go with head

Nordies
1. Def Yes
2. Def No
3. Undecided
4. Consider yes depending on agreements on issues being reached

Personally I'd be a number 3
