Shit and stupid

"Coach signs player he formally coached and rates highly" is one of the oldest stories in professional sport.

Aaron Cruden and Finn Russell? Blimey. Not a bad pair of options.

Good on Finn. Hopefully he's able to play regularly, I suppose the French season is pretty attritional though so VC will rotate accordingly. Also hope the French culture (i.e. shoddy fitness) doesn't affect FR negatively also, he'll be 25 when he goes there we'll need him playing at a top level for the next 2 WC's certainly.

Will be a good way to raise his game potentially though.

Just seen quite a few people on Twitter saying this story is categorically not true.

People worth listening to?

Morrison is usually reasonably well informed on this stuff.

Not a bad weekend then. Don't have Sky, and I've only got round to watching the highlights on Youtube, so hopefully someone will post the whole game so I can watch the last 20 mins.

Not sure about sending Dunbar & Bradbury home unless they're carrying injuries. With FR off to the Lions, and Horne a possibility for 10 against Fiji, would it not be better to keep Dunbar around as centre cover? And has Bradbury can't be that cooked, he's not played on the tour so far iirc.

Toony Tombola...

I would think both would want to stay on tour even if not playing the test so likely is niggles or in agreement with players (perhaps they have reasons to return early)

Midfield covered by Taylor, Scott and Grigg (who hasn't played yet) + Horne though he'll perhaps be in at 10
Back row well covered with those who have played already + Hardie and Harley who haven't

Toony has said it was always the plan to release anyone not going to be involved in the final game early to give them a wee extra break.

A nice day for rumours. Apparently Fraser Brown turned down an invitation to join the Lions. Good man if so, I've always had a soft spot for contrarian bastards.

Where'd you hear that?

Funny stuff if he did.

Really want to see Grigg get a chance, was Glasgow's best center last season imo.

What about playing Taylor at fly-half, he seems to be able to do everything else.

Would like Russell at Montpellier if he must go to France as Cotter knows how to play him but you have to worry about him in France from a playing and fitness point of view.

Very important Hastings comes good for Glasgow and Scotland to be competitive.

I heard Jackson was going to Ospreys - why not Edinburgh for depth? Also how highly rated is Eastgate at Wasps? Might he come up?

Think Stephen Jones tweeted about a Scot saying no to the Lions, then others chipped in to identify Brown. Now I know SJ is a cnut but he tends to be a well-informed cnut. It's his opinions that make him insufferable, not his factual knowledge.

Anyway, all fun and games and unsubstantiated rumours.

Any suggestions for hostelries that would be showing the Lions up in Aberdeen on Saturday morning?

I reckon it'll be the ABs showing the Lions up...

I just checked and the bar I used to frequent for big sporting events is no longer there, so best if you take advice from someone with contemporary knowledge.

During the 2011 NZ world cup I caught the early morning games in O'Neills in the centre. Did the job! Let down obviously by the shite house Scotland performances

Apparently Riley's sport bar (which I have never heard of)
Feankenstiens used to open for breakfast or try Soul, but can't confirm for either.

Sorry can't help more, been many moons since spent time in the Grey city.

If Brown really has turned down the Lions then clearly they are not getting the £70k discussed elsewhere. I'd astonished if Scotland match fees were more than a fraction of that and whilst money isn't everything, I can't see players turning down the Lions if it loses them (and their union) £70k.

Try the Dutch Mill if they're open. Best boozer for rugby/sports in general.

 never thought of it that way but 'tis a proper bar with good food, decent pints (granted this might be a bit early) and sexy barmaids. Not sure what else you need

We could do with getting this Christie lad from the Chiefs capped, we are not exactly over endowed with scrummies and he looks lively, be good having him and Price going toe to toe.

If he'd come in this season and won his place for the Chiefs I could maybe see it but he's only really got game time by default when their main 2 options have been unavailable. There's already whole rake of scrum halves coming through of a similar age to him:

Scott Steele (London Irish)
George Horne (Glasgow)
Rory Vellacott (Gloucester)
Hugh Fraser (Edinburgh)
Charlie Shiel (SRA - Academy)
Andrew Simmers
Ruaridh Dawson (Newcastle)

He is looking sharp up against some of the best in these Isles so i would if i were the SRU having a close look at him and sounding him out. Good we have all those coming through as well though

So, as far as I can tell Finn didn't get off the bench for the Lions and Dell oly for the 10 mins Marler was in the bin? That's pretty shitty.

Seymour did get some game time and made a great break, but the ball was knocked on just short from his pass, couldn't tell if it was Tommy's fault though as I was listening on the radio, not watching. Laidlaw played the whole game, it sounded like he did alright...?
