An important issue and pleased it's seeing the light of day. Think a Scottish players union (mooted?) will help players too...
Forgive my ignorance, but having read a number of articles around the players union and why the SRU should have set one up by now, I am still in the dark as to why it has anything at all to do with the SRU? Surely the whole point of such an organisation is that it is set up by the players, for the players and independent of the governing body?

There was chat during the 6N about a "breakaway" players union being formed. I'm sure I saw stuff on twitter about it too, Barclay may have been one of the guys leading the way on it.
Maybe Ally Hogg? Certainly someone based down south.

It would be separate from the SRU anyway, yes.

Really excited to see the 1872 next week. So much on the line for Edinburgh - whilst they crumble under pressure they front up against Glasgow so might be an ideal 'big' game for them.

On Glasgow - it's pretty pathetic Russell is playing the way he is. I don't mind the try too hard brain melt Russell we see from time to time as he plays incredibly well others. But it doesn't even look like he's trying for Glasgow nowadays. He needs to buck up his ideas or he'll replace Dan Carter alright, just he'll replace the Dan Carter who is currently on the bench.

Ali Price has had a real shocker of a season, Alex Dunbar is an average center at best - his defence isn't close to being as good as made out, Matt Fagerson is a hell of a prospect but how is it he's their front foot carrier a 19 year old who might not even be ana8 - how come a big bruiser 8 hasn't been signed? Scott Cummings hasn't kicked on from his time in the 20s yet.

For a side who's won as many matches as Glasgow, it's all a bit of a mess.

this season, Russell has been dropped, dropped again and will maybe be dropped again if he keeps playing like that. He coasts through games regardless of how he's playing so inevitably his current poor form just makes him look lazy and uninterested. I think it's just his manner, his attitude is what makes him on his day near unplayable, but for me Hastings can't come good soon enough (Hoping to heck he does). The SRU meanwhile will be pleased to have Finn off the payroll.

As for the others... it's a sair fecht that's put young Fagerson at the vanguard of Glasgow's carrying... He'll hopefully be all the better for it. Cummings has not kicked on yet but has picked up a couple injuries to stunt his progress. Dunbar has not looked at his best for a couple seasons now... He has been a good servant for club and country but like say Wilson will only add so much at international level. I think Johnson might be Glasgow's preferred longer term option in there. He would link better with Jones or Grigg.

Horne jnr needs to kick on next season like we know he can. Price has not done so this year, he's kind of gone backwards if anything as Pyrgos looks the better 9 atm.

I think one of the issues this year has been some of the fairly average signings made by Rennie - Halanukonuka is pretty gash and looks frankly unfit, Kebble is lumbering and injury prone, Masaga is on a jolly, and Jones has flattered to deceive. In fairness Gibbins has looked the part, and Turner has come in and done well.

We'll see how the playoffs go, but given the 6th place last year this was always going to be a rebuilding year. Next year will be the time to judge Rennie.

Oh and Seymour is trading quite well on his reputation at the moment, he's been rubbish this year, by the standards we've all come to expect from him.

Did think the weegies could at least have not coughed up a BP today. I suspect Edinburgh will have to beat them if they want the playoff spot.

They were a disgrace today and if they turn it on next week and an unlikely sequence of events sees Edinburgh with zero points and Ulster with 5.....

Good post dargotron.

I think Hastings has been mismanaged, should have been played over Horne at 10 this season because he is a 10. I'm not too concerned about his development because he's only 21 but he needs to be given game time soon.

Johnson has been the best centre for Glasgow for sometime now, will be a very good addition to the Scotland side. Huw Jones doesn't have the skill level to play for a Rennie side reliant on such high level skills.

I think no doubt Matt Fagerson will improve but still where's the rest of the backrow in the carrying? I always hear Rob Harley does the unseen stuff but all the good players in the world who do the unseen stuff (Robshaw, Kaino, Fardy, Shingler, O'Mahoney) you see them do it! I think he's a limited player.

On signings - Jones and Kebble had a full season, were parachuted in before pre season and have had injuries, same with the Nuke who's played for a year straight now - he's probably shagged, I think Masaga has shown a lot of endeavour too. Oh and where are the signings for next season?

Time to judge it all is next season but not a good start!

As I've said previously, it will really amuse me if Ulster win with a TBP and Embra make the playoffs with a LBP.

Then Edinburgh can blame themselves for losing to Ulster at home?

So Du Preez is off to join Solomons at Worcester. What do the players like about him that we clearly do not see? Could be the only contract on offer I suppose.

Solomons - for all his faults - got the best out of du Preez. Allow him to carve up in the wide channels rather then bash it up the middle and hit rucks. Until his injury he was easily one of the best backrows in the Pro12 when allowed to use his soft hands and athleticism in the wider channels whilst Coman and Grant did the graft. CdP paired with Mata/Bradbury doesn't work as all are looking to carry and none to smash rucks.

Doubt either he or Weir were hugely in demand though, interesting SHC hasn't been snapped up by Solly but I guess towards the end he preferred Fowles.

Season Passes on sale today to the preferred list in advance of the public sale. In other words the folk who aren't paying by direct debit. Once again our seats from last season have already been sold and we've had to move, same with pretty much everyone we know. Went to the ticket office to try to change to direct debit multiple times in the last year and told we'd be able to sort it in advance of the sale, but then told we couldn't. Bit of a shit show quite frankly, but got the required number of briefs eventually (and now moved to direct debit).

Picked up a couple today, from being members of the Scotland Supporters Club this year, two Tiks in the very back row of the East Stand, happy with that.

I think Glasgow the plucky underdogs might come good for this game, their team looks a lot stronger than the one that folded like a wet paper bag v Ulster, more threat with Horne / DTH and more leadership and grunt with JG. If Russell can play the percentages then I could see them prevailing.

Yep, you guessed it, Scotland losing the kick-off receipt and conceding with just 40 seconds gone.

A good recovery, but ultimately more bursts of shite play (godawful defence) lost the game at the end, with Aus scoring in every attack.

Killer was some lumbered passing after Aus bumbled second half kick-off led to an intercept try. After that Aus just rushed every time, and we panicked every f**king time.

Another typically pathetic, gormless and gutless start against New Zealand. Afraid of doing anything simple against them purely because it is a team from New Zealand.

That intercept was always coming, too focussed on fling it wide as quick as possible.

His form of late would have you'd think merited a re-think on the salary stumbling block, but he's generally underwhelmed for a few years now. Obviously Scarlets have deeper pockets than Embra. Begs the question, who will be number 9 next year? Can only assume Hickey and or AN other will kick the goals

Socino is also a goal kicker. Got to assume from the offer of a contract until December someone from the southern hemisphere is lined up to arrive October/November.
