Congrats England!

Deserved win. Stayed in there when the Boks didn't use their opportunities in the first half and came on strong in the second half

Insane game.

England were destroyed in the first half and thankfully a couple of poor line out throws let us off the hook.

No idea what changed in the second half but England were very very lucky not to be 20 down at half time

I’ll take it :D

Good job Janie de Beer wasn't playing. The South African next to me was going ape at Pollard's failure to line up for a dropkick near the end.

Roll your eyes as much as you want but many people. believe that Farrell should have been carded and a clear pen was not given.
That would have been a game changer.

it was a penalty at most. What other officiating decisions were "poor"?

Perhaps, sad a big test game comes down to one referee mistake to decide the result.

Pretty sure Beauden Barrett was penalized, but not carded, earlier this year for a very similar tackle but I thought Owen Farrell's looked much worse. The inconsistency is the annoying thing. Or did the referee just bottle it because it could potentially have decided the game?

I love how a thread ostensibly created for SA fans to be good losers and England fans to be gracious winners has attracted NZers who can't stand threads that are not about them and the predictable chippy Welshman who can't stand anything.

What's slightly amused me is while some kiwis have been fine about this in the various threads.

However we have also seen the predictably more defensive "I never saw it, our players didn't do nothing wrong, the ref was perfect, every one just biased against NZ" brigade from down under. I suspect they are unprepared and unable to understand the rationale of fans of a team who after a game admit they won the game from an obviously wrong referee call. It's like defying the laws of physics to some of them, hence the scrambling for some weird kiwi related justifications before their brains shut down.

Apologies for commenting on a rugby thread. I guess there is an entire thread devoted to the Farrell tackle and I should have commented on THAT thread. :P

I've been saying for far to long how, the referee inconsistency is a cancer that plagues World Rugby. The constantly spewed out idea that players must adapt to each refs interpretation is ridiculous, unfair and dangerous given the sheer scale of individual interpretation means the referees aren't even trying to vaguely ref the game the same way as each other.

Congrats to England. They were more hunger team on the day. Despite the score both teams will have a lot of positives from this battle to work on.

The BB tackle was a massive brain fart by the ref, he only used his arm, around the waist/lower chest, that plus Croty immediately stopped the Puma player. A similar (not as good) to Henson on Tait years ago.

Farrell goes to wrap, but both bounce.

Neither were penalties, the BB one being monumentally dumb, up with Bismarck on Carter - at least no card in this case though

My immediate reaction after the tackle was, what the refs decision would have been if Esterhuysen did this tackle on Farrell?

Pretty sure the English would have booed much harder then the Kiwis after Bismarcks tackle on Carter.

England showed a lot of heart to come back after the first half. I was waiting for the wall to crumble and it never happened.

Jones's interview was gold and worth the watch in itself. :D

Boks backline is worrisome. All the flair and effort but very little penetration.

We’ve always had to adapt to referees inconsistencies even back in the ‘good old days’. There were always refs that applied different interpretations to the ruck, maul, offside line, scrums etc etc. You just had to adapt.

I have no problem with inconsistencies that are down to a different ref having a different view and seeing in slightly different ways, it's the whole "It's a penalty some times, a card at others and not even an offence to some" because the ref wants to achieve different things where they may not even ref the two teams in the same way or even inconsistent variation in the game like suddenly stooping players flying into rucks when they allowed it all game before. I'm not asking there be perfection, but some the spectrum of outcome is so vast it's quite ridiculous.
