Unleashed/Danny The Dog
The Wolf of Wall Street
Django Unchained
The Singing Detective
Bugsy Malone
The Wicker Man
Inside Llewyn Davis
Shine
The Fog
The Fifth Element

All work well as standalone albums rather than a random set of full tunes that got 30 seconds airtime on film.

I heard somewhere that Moby's 'Play' album was the first album to have its entire play list used in film soundtracks. Impressive if true.

The bloke who wrote the music for 'Amadeus' was pretty good.

Love the 'Lost Highway' soundtrack. Angelo Badalamenti is a legend. Add David Bowie, Lou Reed, NIN, Marilyn Manson and Rammstein and it's something else.

Also rate Vangelis' '1492: Conquest of Paradise' soundtrack, and of course everything Morricone has ever done. Just watched the Good, The Bad and The Ugly again on the weekend again. Just awesome.

Great soundtrack. Reminds me of the awesome wikipedia entry for Tim Cappello (who performs the great 'I still believe' on the Lost Boys soundtrack):
Tim, formerly known as Timmy, changed his name after a life-changing trip to Nepal.
 Must have been one hell of a trip.

Platoon is my stock answer to this question, though it has already been mentioned. Most Vietnam War films have great soundtracks in fairness.

One I haven't seen mentioned is Dylan's 'Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid'. Great album for a long drive or lazing in the garden with a beer.

Most Cohen Bros or Tarantino films are great too.

Baby Driver for something more recent.

Jonny Greenwood’s work for PTA’s films have always been interesting but the last one is something you could happily listen to independent of the movie. Check out the Phantom Thread soundtrack

Not a movie......

But a 'Best of' album of songs used in Shamesless (US) would be worth a listen.

Kudos to whoever it was that mentioned Wayne's World.

Most if not all Quinton Tarrantino movies have great soundtracks. Often weird or obscure songs thrown in the mix.

Arcade Fire's soundtrack for Spike Jonze's 'Her' is absolutely spectacular.

Other favourites would be Michael Collins, Last of the Mohicans, and of course anything by Morricone.

Angelo Badalamenti, Michael Giacchino and Gustavo Santaolalla are great too, and I've recently gotten into Max Richter, he's got some great stuff. Oh and Philip Glass. And Howard Shore. Steve Jablonsky's got some good stuff too.

Goodfellas....should have had an all time great soundtrack but most of the best songs in the film didn't appear on the actual soundtrack released, including a few that where essential parts of key iconic scenes.

for their time, Ferris Bueller's Day Off and The Breakfast Club were fantastic, and full of iconic songs.

Kill Bill Vol.1 has got to be up there.

Baby Driver has got to be worth a nod.
