Bulldog Cup: US Open - Erin Hills 15/06-18/06

Posted: Mon Jun 12, 2017 8:28 pm
by earl the beaver
Second major of the year, and the USGA really, really need to not cock this up and need the course to be much better than the past 2 years. Players are already complaining about rough that is utterly unplayable mind.

Erin Hills is a massively spread out course, with some enormous fairways and looks more like a links course but apparently still playing like a parkland.

Current holders:

Masters - rumham
US Open - k1w1-ozzie-hambo
Open Championship - earl the beaver
USPGA - Rusted

Pick one from each of the following:
-USA
-GB&I
-Europe
-Africa
-Aus/NZ
-RoW
-Wildcard - Player from outside the top 40 in owgr as of today (http://www.owgr.com/ranking) who has not won this calendar year

-20 points for the winner
-10 points for r-up down to -2 points for 10th (including ties)
-10 for getting all your players through the Cut
-10 for any Holes in one

Entry list will follow shortly once I find one in a decent format. Big news Mickelson not playing, McIlroy making return from injury.

Can k1w1-ozzie-hambo retain his title? An as yet unachieved feat.

Just checking out the course.

Looks fabulous but no doubt the USGA have been at work.

Expect ridiculous rough. Greens too fast for the slopes. Crazy firmness and obscene length.

If the wind blows, anticipate a meltdown or two.

Jason Leonard says he expects a record breaking event in terms of lost balls.

Meanwhile, Chamblee the Troll is arguing for the USGA to stretch the course to over 8,000 yards.

There's already only two par fours in the sub-400 yards area and there's something like 5 par-4s over 500 yards and the first and 18th will play 670 yard+ par fives (although Rory apparently reached 18 on Sunday with a drive and a five-wood!).

Game has gone crazy.

Come on people.

Also Phil flying in on Thursday after daughter's graduation, may or may not make tee-time, royally fúcks the alternate.

I'll still come last. Of the picks I've made three will miss the cut, two will quit the game altogether, one will set a course record for highest score and the last will be banned for unacceptable comments about the members of the local club.

Just 2 hours and 20 minutes late.

Up to the other entrants to decide if you are allowed in.

Even later still and Noren isn't eligible as a wildcard in the slightest given he's world ranked 8 and has a win this year.

I was tempted to pick him but I didn't want to ruin his career by having him in my list.

Rickie -5 after 10. Playing smart, accurate golf and dissecting the course.

This course can easily be tamed unlike a lot of previous US Open efforts.

The course is still a beast and causing problems. If the wind picks up, as expected, I don't think we'll see these low scores this afternoon or over the weekend.
