match and where was played and who were the opposition?

The first international game I attended was Ireland versus France in what is referred to as International Championship (5 Nations)
in January 1979 at Lansdowne Road. The result was a draw.

I think Julius Caesar reffed the game. Romans v English. It was a bloodbath.

England v Ireland - Twickenham 1998. Johnny Wilkinson's debut off the bench (to wing iirc). Hickie long range intercept, but comfortable Eng win.

Actually remains the only England game I've seen at Twickenham.

1987, Napier, Tonga v Canada. RWC no.1

I can't remember who won but we supported Canada because they came to our rugby camp to talk to us and Tonga refused.

We had the hex playing Wales in Cardiff starting in 1983 and lasting the best part of two decades. Loved the old Arms Park as a venue.

Ireland v Zimbabwe, Lansdowne Rd. at the WC in 1991.

I'd been to Croke Park before but I'd never been to Lansdowne or on a terrace before or been sent to find my way there by myself with a collective of similar rabbits in headlights.

I still have the ticket, I'll never forget it. Brian Robinson scored 4 tries. :)

Yeah Ireland had Wales at the Arms park for a good two decades like you say. My next game was better, v England in the same year at the Arms Park. Wales won 12-9

Apparently I was at the 1983 Mid Canterbury v British Lions game at the Ashburton Showgrounds, Ashburton. The final score 6-26.

Not that I gave much of a fvck as a 5 yr old.

My first full international game would come quite a bit later - 1994 New Zealand v South Africa at Carisbrook, Dunedin. The final score 22-14.

The first one I remember was in 1972, Scotland/Ireland v England/Wales at Murrayfield for the SRU centenary match.
Sco/Ire won 30-21 with Mike Gibson scoring 3 tries and Tom Grace 2 tries.
Be a bit of fun if they had these matches occasionally again but no room in the calendar now.

3rd February 1979, 5 Nations at Twickenham. A school trip to a 7-7 draw between england and Scotland.
Only time I've watched Scotland without having to see them lose.
Geech was playing.

1991 World Cup Quarter Final, Ireland v Australia. The old South Terrace. Got lifted in the air by some random guy when Hamilton scored; alas Campo broke our hearts.

I went to the Ire/Sco versus Eng/Wal game in Cardiff in 1980, to celebrate the Welsh RFU Centenary. We were in Wales on holiday at the time and myself and my dad went to the game.

Like you, I'd like to see more of these type of games. That day the likes of JPR, Beaumont, Colclough, Terry Holmes playing against Andy Irvine, Ollie Campbell, Fergus Slattery.

19/11/1994. Scotland v South Africa at Murrayfield. I think it was the first overseas tour since the fall of apartheid - certainly it was the first time we had played them since 1970.

SA won 34-10. Which was a bit gutting because we were decent then.

Actually, thinking about it, I went to a B&I Select v European Select charity match at Twickenham in 1990 or '91 (raising money for Romania). Remains the only time I've ever been there. Not sure whether that counts.

There was a superb turn out of top players for the game. Jeremy Guscott beat about 10 people to score at one point and the cheeky bugger then took a bow in front of the royal box.

Think that was the first game I went to 'on my own' ie. not with my Dad. A few of the school's teams travelled up by train.

I know I was at a Welsh game and a couple of Scots games before then with my old man, back when I was in primary school; but not certain when. And at an England game in Twickenham with Dad & my London-based uncle, also in my primary school days.

France v Japan at North Harbour stadium in the 2011 world cup. Made an effort for the world cup, but otherwise I've always preferred TV for rugby, much easier to see what's going on in the scrums and rucks.

2003 6 Nations, Scotland v Wales. Scotland winning 30-22. All I can remember of it was the beer and smoke fumes
