Actually, I lie. I've just remembered that I was at Australia v England in 1995 at the SFS whilst on u14s tour in Sydney. We were sitting with what seemed like a whole bunch of other schools behind the goal lines. Some Daramalan 1st XVers were behind us.

I didn't know you had a NZ history. Where in NZ did you live?
I did Form 2 and 3 in Whanganui.
What job brought your ma/pa here?
Dad was a mine manager and managed the Waverly Iron Sands Mine until 1987.

Well, quite. I was young and stupid. However it was f**king exciting game.
Wasn't it just. Did you get a bit frightened when that bloody plane dipped low?
I was 18 and from Tauranga. It was almost the most exciting thing that had ever happened to me! :D

1987 RWC Quarter Final All Blacks vs Scotland. Long car ride down from our home at the top of the South Island punctuated with a feed of fish n chips in Kaikoura. Great performance by the All Blacks although didn't really appreciate that fully at the time, and was stoked to get Warwick Taylor's autograph after the game.

Ireland Italy 2000 in their 1st 6N at Lansdowne Road.
Italy got spanked by Ireland.
Was in the Gods in the old stand with wooden chairs over the railway line that you thought would collapse everytime a train went under it.

It was and it was a terrible decision by Kelleher. There were a few things Mead's might have gone for over the years but that was definitely not one of them.

I think mine would have been NZ v World XV at Eden Park in....1992?

First first class game would probably be Auckland v Otago in i think 1991? Or whatever year it was where that controversial try happened (which was totally a try, i was right there)

Think the first time I was in one of the big cities at the same to e as an international tour was during THAT Bok tour.
I remember being bitterly disappointed at not being allowed to go, and very confused as why sports and politics were being mixed up.

1981 Ireland v France, was there with my old club ( Luxembourg ) who were affiliated to the FFR, so it meant we could get tickets for the french games

I'd only started playing a year or so earlier and this was a great 'educational' trip. I know what goes on tour stays on tour so that's all I can say.

I was only a young feller at the time but I remember seeing a debate on TV prior to the tour and wondering why everyone was being so racist and not wanting to play rugby against Africans...

Nah the 91 side that only just lost in NZ was a slightly better team I think. Rutherford and Deans were class but the 91 back row was better and Armstrong was better than Laidlaw
That 87 back row was Finlay Calder, John Jeffrey and Iain Paxton - they were awesome. The front row had Sole, Deans and Milne with White in the 2nd row - surely you have not had a better pack than that?
I remember that the Scottish side that won the 5N in 1984 had a very good forward pack. I'm assuming that most of them were still in the side in 1987.

England lost and finished bottom iirc? First time I'd seen the likes of JPR, Barry John, Gerald Davies, David Duckham etc in the flesh. Also first time i'd been to the "old", wooden Twickenham.
Went along to Old Deer Park first to watch L Welsh play. First time I had more than a few beers with my Dad

Yeah. Ireland came storming out of the gate before being put to the sword in the second half as per usual. My dad was telling me the whole way back home that McCaw was going to be a great.

1990, Murrayfield, Calcutta Cup (I would no doubt have gone to Murrayfield sooner had my parents not moved the family to England when I was less than 1 :x ). South terrace, couldn't see a thing (including Stanger's try), but the atmosphere was extraordinary. An amazing feeling of elation (and relief) at the final whistle.

Scotland-England 1998 Five Nations Championship at Murrayfield. Can't really remember much of the match, other than the taxi-driver going on about David Sole endlessly on the way to the ground.

Actually, I just remembered I saw my first "international" in 1973. The All Blacks v NZ Maori at Rotorua Stadium - it was the official opening of the stadium, it pissed down with rain solidly, the game was shite and we were standing on the grass bank above the terraces and the ground began to give way under us.

That stadium has always been fecking awful. Although I did witness the Bay putting 40 points on the Wallabies in 1982 and one of the best all-in brawls I ever saw was in 1983 when the Bay played the Lions. 29 players beating the crap out of each other and little Greg Rowlands running around not knowing whether to join in or try to break up a fight.

My first test was in 1978 to see the All Blacks play the Wallabies at Athletic Park in Wellington. I went with my dad and my two uncles. I was young, but I remember sitting in the Millard stand and thinking if I stood up I would get blown off the stand.

First Test in 1959.....Lions v NZ third Test at Lancaster Park. As an 11 year old i was in paradise....embankment with metal rails....the shift down three steps when the crowd leaned forward to follow play into the corners of the paddock....back up three steps when they straightened back up again....Ralph Caulton scored two tries for AB's....every kid wanted to be him....DB Clarke at fullback....six hour trip to get to the park from Nelson.....

Was it the 59 tour when the Kiwi crowd chanted "Red Red Red" at one of the tests because they didn't like Don Clarke kicking the ABs to victory? IIRC it was one of the greatest tours.

I remember breaking the couch, jumping up and down on it in our family room in the mid 70's watching the 5N's. Rugby wouldn't have been a big sport around us, all GAA. I spent every Sunday during the summer off at football or hurling matches.

First international was watching Wellington take on France in 84.....Wellington got humped but I spent most of my time walking to the top of the Millard stand (as a 10 year old does) - annoying considering I have no recollection of seeing the likes of Sella, Blanco and Lescarboura playing. Stupid 10 year old self.

My first proper International was in 1994 - AB's v South Africa in a cold and wet Athletic Park.

Timu and Brooke scored. This was the game where Johan le Roux 'Mike Tyson'd' Fitzy.

Remember a guy with no shirt on being poleaxed by his mate behind the posts during the halftime break and the toilets overflowing.
