Corbyn calls on empty London houses to be seized + occupied

the mask is slipping
Jeremy Corbyn has called on his supporters to “occupy” empty buildings to find homes for victims of Grenfell Tower fire.

The Labour leader upped the pressure on ministers to do more to find homes for families who lost everything in the tragedy in west London.

Last week Mr Corbyn called for empty homes in Kensington to be given to families to live in after the tragedy.

In a television interview on Sunday he called on people to “occupy” them.

He said: “There are a large number of deliberately kept vacant flats and properties all over London, it’s called land banking.

“People with a lot of money but a house, buy a flat, keep it empty.”

Asked by ITV interviewer Robert Peston if he would “seize it forever, or just just take it for as long as they’re needed”, he replied: “Occupy, compulsory purchase it, requisition it, there’s a lot of things you can do.

“Can’t we as a society just think all of us? It’s all very well putting our arms around people during the crisis but homelessness is rising the housing crisis getting worse, and my point was quite a simple one, in an emergency you have to bring all assets to the table in order to deal with that crisis and that is what I think we should be doing in this case.”

He questioned why people had been left stranded when airlines are able to find accommodation for delayed travellers.

Mr Corbyn said: "Every day at Heathrow, planes get delayed. Hundreds of people get stranded at airports all over the world.

"Hotels are found for them immediately, they are sorted out.

"400 or so people, still most of them have not got somewhere decent, safe or secure to stay in.

"Somehow or other, it seems to be beyond the wit of the public services to deal with the crisis facing a relatively small number of people in a country of 65 million."

There's less than 1% of London Property empty, even the premise he starts with is bollocks. But hey he's a kindly old man and the messiah.

I wouldn't mind nabbing an empty mansion in Kensington. The owners clearly have more money than me and under Comrade Corbyn "that's not fair".

The majority are about to rise up and take over. Based on fairness and decency etc

I assume though that Corbyn means to take over these properties and pay a fair price for them.

The number of unoccupied properties in London is poor considering the housing issue. UK property shouldn't be a way for rich frequently dodgy foreign nationals to store their wealth while contributing little or doing nothing for the UK economy (beyond increasing house prices). I would prefer us to make it more expensive (a large hike in the annual tax on enveloped dwellings-introduced by the coalition government) for them to do so then directly seizing them (unless of course they caught selling weapons, drug dealing, funding terrorism and other black market activities and traced - then of course i think seizing them is fine).

Not a Messiah. The seizing it idea is bollocks.
20,000+ empty properties is still a large number. How does it compare to Paris and Berlin?

Seize one of Corbyn's homes, see if he still supports the plan.

As someone who works in environmental health I can tell you that the red tape and time associated with a compulsory purchase of a dwelling is significant to the point the financial outlay involved is not worth it and you might as well build a new house. Something like 1 was made last year by Welsh authorities

Increase number of council tax banding, and double each year of no occupation. Would have to do something to dissuade employing house sitting tenants.

Sign of what is to come when he gets elected in 2022. Property rights abolished in favour of a powerful state, backed by a brainwashed mass of leftist education and promises of freebies.

This is why it's vital that Rees-Mogg is put in to power, as an advocate of small state thinking.

Calls like this will reduce his chances of being elected.

Though people would like to help victims, I'd bet than a good majority of people wouldnt back the idea of seizing empty properties.

Off at a tangent, I turned up at a property in NW1 to shoot it for an estate agent a couple of years ago and found there was a team of decorators there. It was a stunning 2 bed apartment - very spacious, and architecturally significant, and was going to list at £13m. I was chatting to one of the decorators and asked him how long they'd been working on site and he said 'well, we started 12 years ago'. I said wtf????

He told me they'd laid the protective floor I was standing on 12 years previously and they'd only been there a day before the woman who owned it had a change of heart about the curtains she'd ordered from America, so she put works on hold while she made her mind up. The same company was ordered back, for a day or two at a time, 2 years later, 2 years after that, then 4 years later and now after another 4 year break. Empty for 12 friggin years. :?

Around a year later I shot the biggest apartment I'd ever been in, 11,000+ sq ft, which was empty and the agent had been trying to sell for 10 years. Turned out the same woman owned it.

A large number decided 80,000 pounds a year made an earner rich, it's a small skip to taking property off of actual rich people.

McDonnell advocates a 20% one off wealth tax on the top 10%.

I don't understand how this is crowd pleasing? Seizure of private property is utterly disgraceful. It goes against the very foundations of human civilisation.

Look at Corbyn's crowds and you see who he is pleasing. Them and the Guardian readers and journalists who are sure it will be other people's second homes that get taken.

They should have an empty bedroom tax on any home with more than 3 bedrooms. People could avoid the tax by housing refugees in the empty bedrooms.

The very foundations of human civilisation was often about the people with the bigger or more technology advanced army seizing what they wanted and planting flags.

If they are seizing property in kensington if will be interesting to see who does actually own it. so difficult to put a person to a shell company

Agree Pete - arise the peasants of England. Your vote is worth the same as Gerald Upton-Smythe; it is yours for the taking.

You too Abdullah, your vote is worth the same as well. Get the Toffs :D

About time the ruling classes arranged another war to cull the voting strength. :x

That would possibly decrease the Tory vote further as all the UKippers would sign up. I think the best policy would be to eject remainers from the UK and then declare war on Europe.

Look at London house prices over the 20 years and if you were a young up and coming arms/drugs dealer or junior oligarch on Putins current friendship group who invested all of his hard earned money through a shell company in the caymans islands in the late nineties or early 2000 into the london property market then your returns by now would be fantastic as the UK is generally a strong and stable country that is pretty sensible (until June 2016).

EDIT Forgot to add that we are really good at laundering.

That's not the point though. Property laws are one of the basic trust contracts between citizen and state.

For all the Corbyn crowd's talk of the DUP taking us back to the 19th century, ignoring property rights would take us back to the 12th century, before that all so important meeting at Runnymede.
