They could, currently though they'd struggle with European law regarding human rights.

Oh yeah. Corbyn's right though, there's 400 hotel beds in London, someone just needs to get their checkbook out.

Be interesting if property was seized, and found to be in breach of the regulations that councils demand for letting. Landlords are usually responsible for ensuring works are carried out.

Dictatorship? What are you on about? The Conservatives are the largest party in Parliament as a result of the GE. They have every right, as they did in 2010, to form a Government. That's democracy.

Come on Theo. You said there is zero chance of an election. There will be another election and the Tories will have taken a weekly kicking for years over brexit in the meantime Corbyn will just snipe from the sidelines promising he would have and will do things better.

On what basis will there be an election? There is no way the Tories will call one given the current polls. So unless there is a vote of no confidence against the Government in Parliament there is no reason to hold one. And given the make up of Parliament such a vote is unlikely to succeed.

Plus another election will make the Brexit cliff edge more likely as we will never agree a deal within the 2 year period. We've already wasted 3 months of it.

We don't vote in Prime Ministers in general elections. We vote for political parties. And the trust in the Tories to actually govern, particularly with May in charge, is near-zero.

I expect the Tories and DUP to cling to their current position for as long as humanly possible. There are some rumours about discontent in the Tory back benchers but they will be monumentally f*cked if there is another election. Any Tory seen to have precipitated that will have committed career suicide. Also lets face it Corbyn is a bit demented, this caper with stealing people's houses is exactly the kind of thing that should bring the Tory backbenchers back into line.

1% involves huge numbers of property whatever way you look at it. And frankly if you look at how Copenhagen's very sensible no foreign buyers rule has kept city centre property affordable there this could only benefit the good citizens of london.

Yes it does, the last study regarding empty homes in 2010 had 11,201 homes recorded as empty in London boroughs, I doubt that has doubled in the last 7 years.

I'm not sure Copenhagen and London are particularly comparable given the sizes.

Foreign buyers pay larger stamp duty rates then domestic buyers in the UK. I think that is a better way of dealing with it as long as that money is directed towards social/affordable housing. It means the development pipeline continues providing new homes, money towards social housing and tax receipts.

No you didn't. Maybe in the educated, privileged elite of London where the likes of you and yeeb would scrutinise policy but outside the M4/M25? That London-centric inability to see beyond one's own naval was largely the cause of the "surprise" Brexit result and "surprise" no Tory landslide result.

Agree but you'd also have to take out the irresponsible end of the BTL sector. Something like no BTL mortgages permitted over 50% LTV.

That's a bizarre response that has virtually no connection to what's been said. What on earth are you blathering on about? Do you think the Prime Ministers we've had since Blair have been impressive and voted in on personality? It's gone Brown - Cameron - May. I think the market has done that anyway to a certain extent. Plus tax changes to BTL mortgage payments make them far less attractive.

For some reason, most of the country wants yet another god damn election.
Less than a week ago we had the third national vote in as many years.
But rather than being sick of the whole process, the majority of the country would apparently welcome another one.
This is according to a YouGov poll, which found that 43% of the UK wants another general election this autumn

'Not another one': A UK general election is imminent according to the bookies

The most likely date for yet another general election will be before the end of this year, according to the bookmakers.

The odds of it happening by December 31 are 13/8 according to Paddy Power while Ladbrokes put it at 5/2. The odds for there being a full five year parliament are 5/1.

This. May ran an incompetent campaign (especially after seeing Hillary screw it up just 6 months ago), Corbyn however is a stone-cold lunatic.

In bad news for Jeremy Corbyn, the proportion of people who think he would make a better Prime Minister than Theresa May hits its lowest level ever this week, at 13%. With 51% of Brits believing the Conservative leader to be a superior choice, May's 38 point lead is also the highest it has ever been
can't blame her for calling an election with those figures
